I rarely even consider Intel when I build a new PC these days. The price/performance is a lot costlier than AMD, especially in the used market.

Used sure, I'm not sure that's true for new. Depends on which price segment you are looking at I suppose.

It's the motherboards. You can find some comparable CPUs on price but once you factor in the motherboard it usually skews towards AMD pretty heavily.

Guess I will have to look at that more. I saw some of the X670 motherboard prices and they were already pretty ridiculous.

Nice. Curious to see what the response will be after 7000 Series 3D chips are released over the next couple months. I only expect that market share to grow for the next 2-3 years.

Actually, you are right that AMD mobos for their newest CPU are pretty expensive right now, but if you look at anything other than the newest releases which might still be somewhat marked up just for being so new, AMD is usually a much better deal. 

 

Going back one gen, the cheapest 12th gen i7 is $266 on newegg. The Ryzen 5700x is $200.

Oh yeah, Zen 3 stuff is absolutely cheap at my local MC, I agree.

While I still have more 'Intel' than 'AMD', the last three CPUs I have added to my stable are all AMD 16c/32t, and I couldn't be happier. I am starting to give some serious consideration to 7950X3D but per my earlier comments in other threads on that CPU, I first want to see some thorough third-part testing, including re. Windows scheduler challenges and such.

 

Apart from that, AM5 X670E mobos are much pricier compared to their more or less direct X570 counterparts, never mind the need for different types of RAM. Finally, a 5.1+ GHz 5950X with 3800+ DDR4 is still great for productivity and in 4K gaming (which I exclusively do), the GPU is more important anyhow.
