Any advantage to using the beta V8 client, particularly in Linux?

Hi all.

I am wondering if there is any advantage to using the beta V8 client in terms of work unit assignment, or it being more efficient and producing more PPD.

Before upgrading to it, I figured I'd ask:

Will 127.0.0.1:7396 be the same port to access the web interface?

Will config files still be stored in /etc/fahclient/

Will log files and the work folder still be at /var/lib/fahclient/

Any reason I should upgrade? I can easily remove the old deb package, and then install the new beta client, but I want to make sure things will still be in the same place. And if there's no real reason to do so and my points will be the same, I'll probably leave it as it has been.

Thanks

  • Solution

There is no performance improvement with v8 and it is still beta.  If you use hfm to monitor your folding systems, it will not work with v8.  I'm not sure if any paths change, but I think they probably stay the same.

I wouldn't recommend using the v8 client right now unless you have a specific reason.
