How to fix VPN connected PC to Forza Motorsport 7 "Failed to acquire server data"?

Depending on the Firewall being used, they can block VPN related traffic completely. Are the VPN's connecting and working? Is it just Forza that won't work over the VPN ?

As a VPN user myself, some games just don't work over VPN.  If your internet doesn't allow gaming (weird restriction but okay), and the game isn't working through your VPN, you're PROBABLY out of luck.  Best advice would be to get a non restrictive ISP.

I believe he lives in a managed facility, as such there are internet restrictions and no choice of ISP.

I know I was able to play Forza Motorsport 2023 on the same network using Tunnelbear vpn, so maybe I'll try that again.

If there's a VPN that'll work, by all means.  I just know my Speedify VPN service that I use, I can hop around to all sorts of different servers.  Honestly, gaming over it.....it works fine on some games, other games it doesn't.  It also does seem like it 100% depends on what server I'm connected to as well.  Example, I can use my "Seattle 1" server, and most websites and even a lot of games work fine over Seattle 1.  I switch to Seattle 2 or 3, and I start getting captcha's, websites not working, and gaming not going through at all.  If you've gotten Forza to work over VPN before, then yeah try a different VPN.  I can't really recommend one, as I tend to turn mine OFF for gaming since a lot of titles don't work over it.  A lot DO work over it too though, as I'm sure you know.

It really depends 100% on the VPN service and the server they use, from what I can personally tell.  If a VPN server has been listed as abused, then it probably won't work.  And unfortunately, VPN services tend to get abused by their users.

Yeah, I recall.  😕  I wish there was another option for him, that's got to suck being stuck with restrictive internet like that.

  • 3 weeks later...

What about teredo because I think it has to do with it...  I have been fiddling with it & I think its been thinking about working but still not working...

I don't know what to do exactly but im on ipv4 and teredo uses ipv6 idk what it does exactly does it require the network to use ipv6 because thats never gonna happen.

My "State" is probe & it should say Online or something like that... Whats it say for you?

netsh interface teredo show state

List of working Teredo servers and relays

C:\Windows\system32>netsh interface teredo show state

I have zero experience with Teredo so I am not sure, possibly someone else here has experience.

Maybe we can brainstorm together I know I only have ipv4 and teredo is ipv6 so theres this tunneling interface called 6to4 and after enabling it I get this result...

Which clearly says there in NAT is port restricted so I'm getting somewhere (I think) because Forza Motorsport 2023 worked online on this network why won't Forza 7?

C:\Windows\system32>netsh interface teredo show state
Teredo Parameters
---------------------------------------------
Type                    : enterpriseclient (Group Policy)
Server Name             : win10.ipv6.microsoft.com (Group Policy)
Client Refresh Interval : 30 seconds  (Group Policy)
Client Port             : 3544  (Group Policy)
State                   : qualified
Client Type             : teredo client
Network                 : managed
NAT                     : restricted (port)
NAT Special Behaviour   : UPNP: No, PortPreserving: No
Local Mapping           :

External NAT Mapping    :
