I want to see if it's going to live up to the originals reputation of crippling high-end hardware.

 

I can only hope lol. Realistically though game engines have come such a long way so I expect we will get a super awesome looking game that does not need 2.4 exaFLOPS of computing power to run. Doom Eternal IMHO looks great and for what it looks like on nightmare settings, it does not require the earth thanks to Vulkan.

I played through the original at something like 12FPS on my 7950GT, which was top of the line barely a year before Crysis (for people as dumb as I was who decided to buy a late 7 series card, not realizing just how big of a leap gtx 8000 would be months later..) it was just plain torture. I don't see that happening again, that game was really more of a 2007 tech demo meant to show what games would be like years later ... running in real time. Hardware and game engines have long since caught up.

 

At least this re-release of the game should be far more multi-thread friendly.. bottleneck is going to be in the ray tracing for sure.

 

This appears to be using the Raytracing feature that doesn't rely on RTX cores, as seen in the Neon Noir benchmark we were running a few months ago.. That's going to be cool to try out.

What I would find interesting is a comparison on this next Crysis release between RT Core ray tracing and the Cryteks RT agnostic method. Without the use of dedicated hardware such as the RT cores there will be a performance hit to cards without RT Cores, would be interesting to see.
