Something might be amiss - RTX 4080 Super reviews out!

NVIDIA today debuted the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, the third and final part of the Super mid-lifecycle refresh of its RTX 40-series Ada generation. NVIDIA focused on housekeeping the upper end of its GeForce RTX product stack with this refresh. For the RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super, this meant more performance at their existing $600 and $800 price points, respectively. The company's approach to the RTX 4080 Super is slightly different. There is some increased performance to be had over the original RTX 4080; but at a 20% lower price point of $1,000, compared to the RTX 4080, which launched at $1,200. Much like the RTX 4080 and the flagship RTX 4090, the new RTX 4080 Super is recommended by NVIDIA for maxed out AAA gaming at 4K Ultra HD, including with ray tracing.

From what it looks like, literally a margin of error increase in performance. Something seems... off. I don't think anyone expected some holy grail here, but wow.  Literally tests within the margins of error.

Beyond what comments are already up at TPU on possible cuts (power, BIOS, etc) - anyone think there might be an uplift somehow?

I mean, it's a 5% difference in CUDA cores so the performance increase is inline with what was highlighted / marketed. I'd consider it a binned 4080 and nothing more. The only thing worth noting is the price cut and as most people gathered, it's not enough. Still, a step in the right direction.

Yea, as Slaughtahouse said, the hardware increase is very minor. This is pretty much just a price drop.

I like how gamers nexus put it in their thumbnail:

I mean specs wise, there wasn't really much of an uplift in...anything. Marginal memory speed increase from 22.5Gbps to 23Gbps, and only 5% additional cores. All worked out, means marginal uplift probably closer to the 2-3% range which is well within margin of error.

Really all this release is, is a 4080 at $999 MSRP because for whatever reason Nvidia didn't want to just officially price-cut the existing model as probably some marketing tactic. Which is weird since they did the 4070, but what do I know.

Edit: I'll be honest, a couple week ago I thought maybe the performance would scale up a bit better, but frankly the 4070 Ti Super launch last week dashed that idea. So I think this is pretty expected for the 4080 Super.

Funny because I'd say $999 is still too much.

Didn't want to make a new thread just to mention this: anyone notice Nvidia's stock lately? ~$690 now. It was ~$600 a few days ago. Pretty nuts.

Yea pretty insane. Seems to be based on the increased spend forecasted by Meta for Nvidia based AI solutions and Goldman Sachs reinforcing that Nvidia’s earnings should surpass their yearly earnings target from my quick google searches.

Curious to revisit this discussion in 3-5 years…
