Rigid (DIY?) Mousing Surface Suggestions?

I need a new 'mousepad'; accidentally melted my steelseries hardpad (that sits atop a piece of 23/32 plywood) w/ acetone. I'd like to purchase one of EHW's mousemats but, I think it's inappropriate for my folding-table desk I'm using @TM. I need something with some rigidity and 'solid-ness' to it itself (to stay flat). Any recommendations or DIY experiences to share? 'Found this lil article about using OilPaint and/or Polyurethane wood sealant to build-up a mousing surface on a laminate desk. Integrate WWW.INSTRUCTABLES.COM Integrate "satin" Polyurethane Mouse Pad Into Desk Finish: Old computer desks tend to wear pretty quickly, but I've found even laminate desks can be coated with poly, I just roughed up the desk... I'm kinda tempted to run to the hw store for polyurethane but, it'll take awhile to cure, regardless of what I put it on. I also have a thing for Glass and Metal. Are there any half-decent out-of-the-box cheap hardpads? Or, any recc's/experiences w/ sourcing the right thickness of glass to coat or Alu. to sand? Thanks.
