Interesting choice using a mining board. I looked into using risers for a folding rig a while back and the research i did seemed to note that pci 1x is a bottleneck for folding depending on the WU or would something like those 1060's not matter as much? Cant remember if mid range cards were as affected.

Outside that i do have 10x Spare PCI 1X to 16X Risers and a EVGA 1300 Watt G2 PSU ( 120-G2-1300 ) im willing to donate and look into shipping if your interested. Cheers.

Edit: I also have a handful of 128gb m.2 drives on hand. Might also have a Sata to M.2 enclosure somewhere i can combine if you dont mind a smaller 128gb boot drive.

Selling my Ducky 1008-C with Cherry Mx Blues. Special OCN Edition, hence selling their. Proceeds go to the CFP.

Selling Here

Oh man I always kinda wanted one of those. Really unjustifiable for me to get it though.

I love the irony of profits from an OCN-related product going towards EHW efforts lol

On another note, I have also added a GoFundMe campaign if people prefer to go that route rather than Paypal :) Feel free to share the campaign among your peeps.

Nice ! With respect to the risers are they like these : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB3-0-PC...EAAOSwZNleGW1z (I am not sure if all the risers are USB3.0 or not but I would imagine that is a must for performance)

As or the PSU & Drive, Nice. I cannot imagine an enclosure for the M.2 drive to SATA would be expensive, I would imagine I can get that from trusty Ebay.

Where are you located in the world if you do not mind me asking ? Thanks very much for offering these up !

Well....you gotta sell what you gotta sell right but yeah it is ironic. May bring the price down a little though.

Hey Chaps.

So with respect to the demanding fans we have for this build which are rated at 2.7 Amps, obviously we cannot connect these to any normal motherboard headers...not that there are enough as we have 6 Fans. So with that I have been searching for a Hub that can handle 34 Watts per channel, I wanted a hub as they usually have a connector for the Motherboard so I can configure fans speeds via BIOS or Software. However not coming up with much. Any ideas ?

Alternatively I can get 6x Noctua NA-FC1 controllers, each of these can handled up to 3Amps each so these would work. I would put these in the case and set the fans to a desired speed and leave them. However a hub would be more desirable.

Any thoughts on the topic would be great.

Thanks,

E

I think know those fans, and if they are anything like Vantec Tornados or Deltas, I'm sure you know they are screamers. Vantech does have 0.9Amp versions that are exceptionally powerful at full speed but can actually become bearable when dialed down (still knowing the windtunnel can be called upon if needed). Have you considered something like th eaquacomputer "splitty"?

I initially used them it this HTPC build (located in an AV closet) - but eventually dialed back to Scythes. It has at 7740X(ES)@5.0. GigabyteG7, NH-d9 (90mm fans) and a 1070Ti. It does get warnm in the case until the fans (6) spin up... hence the closet. :laugh_yay:

Hey bud,

Yeah looked up a few options including the Aqua Computer products but from what I could see, they would not have enough grunt to get these bad boys going.

However @axipher had a good idea with a Molex PWM splitter. This would allow me to power the fans via Molex while having 3 fans per adapter to being able to use the PWM feature from the Mobo header. This is great as it gives me better control over them with a view to making sure it does not fly away...or make it fly away when I need lol

This is the adaptor I speak of: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264641554586

With current PPD, we could calculate which cards would be best ppd/$

I know six 1070's would get you 4M to 5M PPD without a huge power draw and decent output.

1070 go used for like $200 to $250 CAD.

I did consider the 1070's. I looked at the 1080Ti's but they still hold their value a little on the high side (For good reason).

Picked up 4 of the fans, glad to see that those funds will go towards the EHWCFP ?

That is because you area good boy :p

On another note the MSI B360-F PRO Motherboard arrived today as well as the 2x replacement fans. So we now have a full compliment of fans.

So just some opinions would be good with respect to the CPU. I am aiming for the i7-9700 (Non K). The non K is cheaper and will have adequate cores to babysit the Nvidia GPU's. As I will not be folding no the CPU then I do not see a huge need to go up a notch to the K variant to take of Overclocking. What do you guys think ? Yes I know mad right, not overclocking ! but being realistic, this CPU is not going to see much action.

Parts parts parts! :wheee:

As for the CPU, I totally agree with no overclock and non k.

The only thing that matters is that it keeps up with all the cards, and that shouldn't be a problem.

I am currently looking at one on Ebay for £180, but its bid and has about an hour to go, this is an i7-9700 that is.

That's a pretty good sponsor you got there. I didn't even know overclockers.co.uk was a retailer, I thought they were a tech news website/forum :lachen:

Oh really ? I mean they have a forum too so you were half right haha.

On another topic guys, so far as the GPU's for this build, the Nv 1070's look like a fairly decent balance between cost vs PPD but wondered if anyone else had suggestions or possibly an idea of an AMD counterpart to look at ?

Cheers guys.
