So, what has happened to the 12VHPWR power cable of our RTX 4090 after two years? Has it melted? Let's find out.

So, here are some screenshots from the power cable. As you can see, it has signs of degradation. The plastic around one connector has been slightly melted. So yes, the melting issues are real.

These guys are reporting that their cables are in fact melted after 2 years of use in the 4090, but they work just fine.  Seems to be the same reporting as we're hearing about those power cables only having one path of power for the card (one shunt).  4090 owners probably should check up on their cables if they haven't for a while.

I don't think neuro is on the forums as much anymore but aside from the back of the cm1000 issue the 4090 12VHPWR cable is in tact and not melted.

To be honest, I'm just putting this news article out as a PSA.  🙂

I want to see some 4090's end up living so I can score one used for $100 5 years from now.  🤣

oof yea, just some anecdotal evidence i guess. had the 4090 since 12/24/22 (microcenter restocked on Christmas Eve those chums)
