AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Review

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is a $599 graphics card that trades blows with the $749 GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. That alone sets it up as one of the best GPUs on the market today – but AMD further sweetens the deal with FSR 4, finally bringing AI upscaling to an AMD graphics card for the first time. Simply put, this is the graphics card to get for 4K gaming, especially if you don’t have $1,999 to mindlessly blow on the RTX 5090.

First time in a long time I've seen reviews favorable towards AMD.  Let's see if they can keep up the steam. 🙂

Summary:
The RX 9070 > RX 7900 GRE
[7900 XT-like raster, 7900 XTX parity in RT]

The RX 9070 XT > RX 7900 XT
[9070 XT trades blows w/ the 7900 XTX in raster-only, Typ. w/in 3% +/-. Superior RT performance to the 7900 XTX]

Notably, the 9070 XT reliably beats the 7900 XTX in RT, regardless of resolution. (Even, with only 16GB of virtually the same GDDR6 that's been on the 7900s.)

Local Micro Center supposedly had 700+ units today. By comparison each 50-series launch has been maybe 100ish units.

Honestly looking great. 20-25% better in raster s my 3080 Ti. RT seems about on par with 3090-3090 Ti-ish levels. FSR4 is looking to be better than DLSS CNN models but behind DLSS4 transformer models. Huge improvement over FSR3. And 16GB.

5070's are sitting on the shelves at my local MC.

Good, let those 5070s rot. Nvidia should recall, relabel as 5060 or 5060 Ti and drop the price to $400.

Might finally make me upgrade my 6900XT.  Don't care about RT but more games are basically building around it.  Also FSR4 (again not a fan of upscaling) looks promising at least.

It appears that the RX 9070 XT is sold out at the two Micro Centers closest to me, with limited stock remaining of the RX 9070. They supposedly had hundreds in stock on launch, but I didn't bother to check yesterday since I wasn't planning on getting one.

The 3080 Ti lives on due to me making no time to play games in the last two years. Even when I do get back into it, I've got a backlog of older games to go through that pose no challenge to the 3080 Ti at 4K. It's a lot less stressful not being on the cutting edge because it really sucks out there right now if you are.
