I expect nobody lives close enough, but is anyone attending Petit Le Mans this weekend?

F1 Mexican GP qualifying was actually great since the top 6 were so close.

Also watched the MotoGP race last night with some friends from the FSAE team. Second MotoGP race I've watched live and in length. Those guys are nuts; certainly very entertaining to watch even when you don't know the teams and drivers super well.

Excited for the F1 race today as well, the top 6 should be interesting once again.

Also the 4 Hours of Portimao is live for another two hours:

F1 race was

pretty mediocre to be honest. Race wasn't bad at all, but it played with my emotions a bit too much. With 15 laps to go, the gap between the top four was dropping, leading us to believe we were going to get a great, Silverstone 2018-like showdown in the final five laps. The top four each got within two seconds of one another and then nothing happened. Pretty standard for this era of F1, I suppose.

Unrelated, interesting article:

https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/...r-lamborghini/

Also unrelated, Stadium Super Trucks are friggin' sick.

Just to boot some activity back into this thread, how about that Brazilian GP?

A few announcements today in the motorsports world, Latifi going to Williams as expected, Kubica looking to DTM for next year, and Bottas getting a divorce. In Formula 2, Gelael is getting replaced by Schwartzman (the 2019 F3 champion) at Prema to pair with Schumacher for the 2020 season. Armstrong to move from F3 to ART in F2. Here are the details on the feeder series movement since there are some F2 drivers getting shuffled around, as usual.

https://www.motorsport.com/fia-f2/ne...oster/4603574/

I'm still catching up on season 5 of Formula E, and then hopefully I can start keeping up with FE as the races happen. Series seems interesting enough to be worth following, especially after the introduction of the Gen 2 cars.

I really think the F1 race at Babbu Babby should be like week 13 in iRacing. Basically, anything goes and points don't matter. I don't think anyone cares about it.

Points don't matter?

I think something like that would be quite a bit of fun as well. It's been an interesting race for the midfield for the past few years since 4+ teams have been so close in the standings, but on the front end of the championship, yeah, it's just a bit of a victory lap for them in a way. Another semi-related idea that I think would be quite fun is going back to Australia at the end of the year just to see how each car/driver has changed over the course of the season.

The 24 Hours of Daytona was pretty solid. Without any direct spoilers, they broke the record for longest green flag run and longest race distance for the Daytona 24, beating the latter record from 2018.

Lots going on at the moment in the world of motorsports it seems.

F1 preseason testing week 1 is over, Ferrari looks like they're off their marks based on their on track performance and interviews, unless they're playing some serious mind games. Merc have introduced what they call DAS, or dual axis steering. Driver basically hits a button on the wheel to unlock or lock the setting, and can move the steering column forwards or backwards to adjust the toe of the front wheels while at speed, optimizing straight-line performance vs. turn in responsiveness. The system seems to be legal and is really clever. Everyone can't stop talking about it.

In other news, I've been actually watching a bit of NASCAR, Daytona 500 completely wild at the end of the race, as per usual from what I understand. Currently watching their LV race as well as the 6 Hours of COTA over on the WEC side of things. I've been a bit out of the loop on WEC, seems like they've actually balanced the Toyotas with rest of the LMP1s.

I saw that, and it seems like a lot more people are into simracing as a result of the race cancellations. iRacing player numbers are noticeably up right now, which is nice to see.

Nando Lorris probably got a lot of flak for that. I think he went back to iRacing after uninstalling F1 2019.

What I really hate about that game is, I had no issues with the game until over 2 hours into it. Then it started crashing and I was getting really bad stuttering so I couldn't get a refund on it. I'm never going to buy another F1 game again because of that. At least not from Codemasters.

Yeah I've actually been watching most everything that's been streamed on iRacing, mostly NASCAR and Indy, and I've watched very little F1 stuff because there aren't many current drivers participating, at least not compared to other series, and I just really don't like the Codemasters F1 games. They look and feel very artificial compared to AC and iRacing. It's really nice to see so many actual, current drivers participating in other series though.

Interesting F1 news yesterday that Seb is no longer going to drive for Ferrari after 2020, but he's not necessarily retiring. We'll see if this creates a domino effect with drivers swapping around after someone takes his seat.

Yeah, I saw that...reminds me a bit about the Ferrari situation in the 1966 "Grand Prix" film (hopefully with a different ending).

I always wanted to see Seb at Mercedes...though it would get quite crazy between Hamilton & Seb. Also wondering re. the Covid-19 race schedule this year
