There's always new member promotions

It doesn't really get better than this.

Alternatively you can use "PR-eNASCAR2019" "PR-GRIPTV19" or "PRNASCAR1019" to get 3 months for $10, or "PR-HOTLAPS" to get 3 months for $4.78 or "PR-OUTLAWS" to get 12 months for $50. Those do only apply to new members and I'm not even sure if any of them work. It's worth trying out though.

Yeah, I was made aware of one of the 3 months for $10 deals a couple weeks ago, but I won't have time until December, so I thought I'd wait for the next promotion, which I was told is usually around the holidays anyways. Thanks for the other info though, that's quite inviting.

  • 1 month later...

Got my rig set up a few days ago, and I've really enjoyed the bit of time I've spent with it.

Also got iRacing but I had to leave my apartment for a few days before it finished updating everything. I'll try it out this weekend and see how it goes.

Speaking of which and it probably doesn't apply to anyone here. iRacing is currently $5 + tax for 3 months for those with expired subscriptions if you enter the code "PRLAPSED20191218A" in the checkout.

Finally got some time to play iRacing yesterday, did my first four races. Won the first two, had a tangle-up in the third, then got P2 in the fourth. Class D already. Been enjoying it so far; it's nice to have some multiplayer interaction again.

It's amazing how it takes some people weeks or months to get into D class. At least until you find out why. I saw someone complaining about not being able to get out of rookies for 18 months. He said he either wins or dies trying, but wonders why he can't get out of rookies.

I can see how someone with the wrong mindset can get stuck in rookies for a long time if their one and only focus is winning but... that's just not the point of rookies or SR. I guess it was easier for me to not get tangled up with other drivers since I was usually at the front in either P1 or P2 with a one second cushion on either end most of the time, but still.

I got DIRT Rally 2.0 on the Steam sale, it's a lot of fun in VR, but I can see how a lot of people would have problems with motion sickness in it. Especially on Finland/Australia. There's a Steam achievement to do 100 jumps total on any Finland course, I chose the one that was 16km long and managed to do all 100 jumps before Finnishing the course in the Group B Peugeot.

Do you have a handbrake? Dirt Rally was really fun with a wheel, but I found it pretty difficult to play without a handbrake, and I still had a bit of a hard time with it bound to a button on the wheel.

But yes, that was the only cockpit-based VR game that started hinting at some motion sickness, but it never got too bad for me.

I don't have an actual handbrake, I'm using the R3 button on my T300RS for that.

I could probably give that another go. Just felt really weird and would take some getting used to.

  • 1 month later...

I picked up the BMW M6 GT3 car and the 2021 F1 car from Race Sim Studios. Super high quality mods for AC, and interestingly the default setup for both is pretty comfortable to drive. Usually the RSS defaults are pretty tricky to drive sometimes and take a few tweaks, at least for me. M6 drives about as you'd expect from a GT car, very smooth and not super interesting. For some reason the seating position seems really odd, both on triple screen and in VR. The 2021 F1 car is a bit understeery and seems to have a lot of grip, so it's really quick but feels tame to drive. Both are lots of fun though.

  • 4 weeks later...

Been doing some more iRacing now that I have time. First three races in the Skippies were rough, due to getting involved in wrecks that weren't my fault. Fourth and fifth races have been really nice though. Qualified in the top 10 and moved up a few places as well, with some decent accident avoidance. They're really weird cars to drive because of how much you just slide and understeer and I kind of hate them because of that, but the nature of the racing and wheel-to-wheel action is great.

Unrelated, I tried BeamNG Drive with a wheel and FFB for the first time yesterday, and it's an absolute blast. Highly recommend.

BeamNG has better driving physics and FFB than Forza 7 which really shows how bad Forza 7 is, as driving physics and FFB aren't the main focus of BeamNG.

Also I have a Assetto Corsa server running right now, not sure how long I'm going to keep it running. You will need to install these: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gXqwm2ih9J--hsve2s9SGsz7ssgcCUUs/view

as well as at least the "gold" version of LA Canyons. Unfortunately it's not free but IMO absolutely worth it https://sellfy.com/p/ouwtgs/

Yeah it is. The entire course is something like 117km/73 miles so it's currently the longest one available and the developers are still adding a lot more to it. It does "only" have up to 60 slots but my server is using all of them. The track set is LAC Freeroam - VIP and the car list is:

Alfa 4C x3

Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio x3

BMW M4 x3

BMW Z4 x3

Corvette C4 ZR-1 x3

Ferrari 458 Italia Stage 3 x3

Ferrari LaFerrari x1

Ford Mustang 2015 x3

Honda NSX-R x3

KTM X-Bow R x3

Lamborghini Gallardo SL x3

Lamborghini Huracan Performante x3

Mazda MX5 ND x3

McLaren P1 x1

Nissan 370Z Nismo x3

Pagani Huayra BC x3

Pagani Zonda R x3

Porsche Panamera Turbo x3

RUF CTR Yellowbird x3

RUF RT12 R x3

Toyota AE86 Tuned x3

Toyota GT86 x3

The server is set to run for 4 days and 3 hours before it resets. I'm not actually sure if I'll leave it running for this long though.

The server name is andrews2547 and the password is 787b.

Is that server just for cruising around? I've wanted to try out LA Canyons for some time, seems like this is a good opportunity. I'll let you know if I pick it up and try it out, thanks for sharing the server.

Yeah it is. The entire course is something like 117km/73 miles so it's currently the longest one available and the developers are still adding a lot more to it. It does "only" have up to 60 slots but my server is using all of them. The track set is LAC Freeroam - VIP and the car list is:

Alfa 4C x3

Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio x3

BMW M4 x3

BMW Z4 x3

Corvette C4 ZR-1 x3

Ferrari 458 Italia Stage 3 x3

Ferrari LaFerrari x1

Ford Mustang 2015 x3

Honda NSX-R x3

KTM X-Bow R x3

Lamborghini Gallardo SL x3

Lamborghini Huracan Performante x3

Mazda MX5 ND x3

McLaren P1 x1

Nissan 370Z Nismo x3

Pagani Huayra BC x3

Pagani Zonda R x3

Porsche Panamera Turbo x3

RUF CTR Yellowbird x3

RUF RT12 R x3

Toyota AE86 Tuned x3

Toyota GT86 x3

The server is set to run for 4 days and 3 hours before it resets. I'm not actually sure if I'll leave it running for this long though.

Don't think I'll be available to run my sim until Sunday night or Monday, so that's me out of that window. I'll let you know if I'm up for it afterwards though, depending on what you do with the server.

I guess I should contribute here now that Drews convinced me to get AC lol

Learning on a controller is definitely a challenge, especially since I am so used to flick steering from my old Need for Speed days. Still absolutely having a blast though.

It's not long now until you dump $5000 into iRacing.

  • 3 weeks later...

Been trying really hard to get some races done in iRacing semi-regularly. 22 races on my account so far, and I'm having a good time. Hit a B license tonight, making that two mid-season promotions this season.

I've also been playing with liveries some. Just keeping it basic, as in using the preset layouts from the provided templates in PS and then recoloring them and adding sponsor logos. I'm pretty happy with the way they're been turning out though.
