Good call !

This is one heck of a category buster CPU !  ...I normally look only at HEDT only re. dual use cases here, but the 5950X with 32 GB or 64 GB is a serious workstation-class performer...

...also, just makes my head spin when these latest improvements make it to a 32C or 64C Threadripper

...with your X570 Aqua cooling setup ?!

All you need now is to figure out the new GPU(s)...if the 6900 XT 'keeps it admittedly early and sparsely-documented' promise, you might end up with an all-AMD setup...

Yeah it will be with the X570 Aqua :)

I will be likely going AMD for a GPU to be honest, assuming that they bring there game. I am interested in this new AMD CPU/GPU performance gains that are being mentioned here and there.

I may be waiting it out until Zen 4 at the earliest, but it's pretty amazing to see AMD at the top again after so many years.

If I was in the market for a new CPU right now, I'd go with at least a 5900X, but I could pretty easily justify a 5950X as well for the little bit of content production that I do.

AMD processors were already winning in most workloads except gaming and PS. It looks like that's changed and they're winning in almost every scenario now. I don't think Intel knows what to do at this point. Rocketlake X isn't going to be any drastic game changer.

..check out DerBauer (and more generally, Tom's Hardware) below. DerBauer makes an interesting comment about a unique Bios setting for both all-core and single-core. Even the aforementioned CCX differences are a potential advantage for a serious tuner, even before an Agesa updates. Be that as it may, the 5950X is one heck of a CPU - probably the best all-rounder before serious server chips...all I need now is a dual 6990 XT Quadfire setup to go with it... ?

...I don't consider myself an AMD fanboy, still, it is nice to see how AMD is performing these days with an engineer with business smarts at the helm, after their near-death experiences - I also sincerely hope that Intel finds its way back, in spite of all its stock price shenanigans under its previous and current leadership.

AMD 5950X + full-block w-cooling + 64 GB of 4000+ RAM + AMD 69(9)00 XT = yummy

Also, wondering about a mGPU option with BOTH a 6900 XT and a RTX 3900/7nm in one 5960X system ?

Yeah I tell myself that all the time, one day it will stick...maybe.

As for mGPU. Well nothing that says you cannot have an AMD and Nvidia card in one system, but I would ask why ? Other than dedicated a GPU to say Folding or other task, I am not sure what the benefit would be.

Why ? Why not ? mGPUs of the same type in one system have been around for a while (two 8xGPU setups below)...but, I'm just dreaming in technicolor while waiting for the next build project in the new year...

...yeah, that's what I was actually thinking - 'regular mGPU' (same type) are fun; but time for a multi-type setup with AMD and NVidia ( two of each ?) Hehe

But what advantages would that serve ? Just wondering what your use case is going to be ?

...I am partially kidding of course, but that said, I am very interested in the future version of unlinked / explicit multi adapter tech, which IMO will replace the aging crossfire / sli. Long story short, it *might* be helpful with a Ryzen 5(950)X to impart some of the 'full AMD-only ecosystem' benefits to a NV 3090...

...thinking about a system that would stay current for five yeas plus, and ready to exploit the new mGPU tech. Anyway, I guess I read too much mGPU tech stuff ?

If such a things were to take off whereby you could have a GPU agnostic system whereby it matters not what pair of GPU's you had in your system and the API can use either or both at anyone time then that would be interesting to see. The only issue I forsee is the driver co-existence between two different adapter types (Nvidia/AMD)

...not sure if this is applicable to Ryz5K dual chiplet designs such as 5950X (and 5900X) as the tests were done on a 5600X, but this is interesting re. best RAM configs for Zen3 - could also be worthwhile to check this on X570 mobos with different topology (Daisy Chain vs T topology).

In any case, Zen3 seems to like all the RAM slots filled...:

Speaking of RAM, here is an update vid (in German) by DerBauer running a 5950X with Infin clock at 2000 MHz, along with a nice DDR4 4000 C18 kit...btw, in an earlier vid, DerBauer also relayed Elmor's finding (for LN2 XOC only) that there currently seems to be a built-in CPU MHz cap for Ryz5K at around 6040 MHz, independent of displayed CPUz. This though doesn't affect any 'real' speed below the 6040 MHz, i.e. on water etc

Yeah I saw the Gamers Nexus vid with respects to better performance with 4x modules over 2x. Very interesting. I run a 4x config now with the 3950X and will do for the 5950X, so it is nice to see that potentially just by going 5950X that you get an uplift in performance just by being in a 4x module configuration. Cannot complain there.

Depending on time I may do a review on the 5950X with the 3950X being the underling, I may also do a 2x Module test vs 4x module with the 3950X at stock and do the same for the 5950X and compare.

Really was wanting an 8 core part but not north of $400. I'm contemplating just going 5900X now.

Prices are rampant at the moment, but there are always those that will pay a premium just to have it.
