Some of you may already be aware of VoiceMeeter's better known little brothers, the VB-Cable line.  These are super useful for adding virtual input/output devices to your system to separate out some audio.

 

VoiceMeeter steps up that and provides you a virtual mixing board with the levels: Base, Banana and Potato.  Each version offers more hardware and virtual assignments at slight increase in CPU usage, but still pretty low and shouldn't really affect your system unless you are loading it up 100%.  VoiceMeeter works really great for going the extra step from VB-Cables in mixing audio between inputs and outputs, combining microphone feeds, adding effects and EQ's, and can be used in combination with Krisp, RTX Voice and most recording software to provide some really clean multi-track audio.

 

I can use it to screen record a MS Teams or Zoom call in OBS on one monitor while I've got music playing in a Chrome tab in the background and not pull that audio in, or with the latest OBS, setup a multi-track stream/record where:

- Track 1: Desktop Audio + Music + Microphone

- Track 2: Desktop Audio + Microphone

- Track 3: Desktop Audio

 

 

I'm going to try to polish up this a little more later on and post a nice graphic of my setup.

My Work Laptop setup is pretty tame:

 

Microphone:
- Shure SM58S > Radial McBoost > Scarlett 2i2 (USB)

 

Output
- Fiio E18 (USB) Coax Output > Schiit Modi 2 Uber > Yamaha R-S300
- Speakers: JBL Arena 120
- Headphones: Audio Technica ATH-M40x

 

No VB-Cables installed on my laptop, just use VoiceMeeter Banana to bring in the Microphone in as a mono and to separate out my programs so that I can use OBS to record a Teams meeting or Discord call without other system audio polluting the recording

Pretty much yeah, it lets you have a bunch of inputs, including some virtual ones and then some virtual outputs and your hardware outputs and you can map the inputs to any outputs, apply effects, single out audio from certain applications for recording/streaming.

I use Voicemeeter Banana to connect to the ASIO interface on the Scarlett Solo. Combined with Hi-Fi cable, the latency is lower than using windows audio. I have about 80ms lower in games.

 

This is how I have it configured:

 

Microphone:

AT2020 > Scarlett Solo > Voicemeeter Banana ASIO > Voicemeeter Output

 

Output:

Game Audio > Hi-Fi Cable Input > Voicemeeter Banana (A1 Focusrite USB ASIO) > Scarlett Solo

Voice Apps > Voicemeeter Input > Voicemeeter Banana (A1 Focusrite USB ASIO) > Scarlett Solo

 

Buffers:

ASIO: 256

Hi-Fi Cable: 3072

Voicemeeter Input: 3072

 

Sample Rate: 24bit 96000hz

 

I use 96000hz because it gives me the best hz/buffer ratio without causing crackling or dropouts.

Nice simple little setup, also welcome to the forum
