I do computer repair and I haven't seen a windows 7 pc in a loooong time now. I don't think these numbers represents the average user. I suspect most of the PCs still running windows 7 are in parts of the world with less access to technology.

I'm still using win7 on my caselabs panda build, cause win10 microcode screw the overclocking feature I used on x79... No plan on installing win10 on that.
I'm also working in an after sell service and deal with plenty of win7 based OS (POS system and embedded) but you know how it is in the entreprise world, things move slower.

I'm writing this on my All-in-one work PC using windows 7 (i3-4160T - 1600x900 and thanks god I upgraded the RAM to 16Go...).

I have not seen Windows 7 in a while on machines I work with. Windows 7 is a solid OS no doubt, but for security reasons I would not be able to justify it anymore on company machines.

I use both Win 10 Pro and Win 7 Pro on my private machines. Win 10 is nice but a giant 'big data vacuum' and all machines in my home office are behind BSD and other firewalls and also run fairly hefty security programs. And then there's always Linux...

How many of them are owned business machines owned by companies?

 

I can't imagine there are too many home users that are still on Windows 7. The ones that are left will be the ones who just don't care/know there's a newer version of Windows or just people who refuse to upgrade because ?

For the record, there are still patches coming for Win 7...both my Win7 machines were patched last month, and several times before in mid & late 2020. But I think these are just the really important security patches.

 

My machines are 'split by use'. The Win 10 one is the 4K one work and play - but has no email. One of the two Win 7 only does email, browsing and older 1080p games. The third one runs our bedroom TV ((instead of the built-in LG software which I finds suspect). As mentioned, all are behind hard and soft firewalls.

 

Then there is the GIANT SolarWinds hack to consider, delivered via patches. Microsoft itself was affected...

I left my Dad's machine on Windows 7 simply because it would be hard for him to relearn a new OS. I do think I will just have to bite the bullet on that one and move him as he sometimes clicks things he shouldn't. I do worry about security.

 

At home most of my computers in the house are on 10 now. My main PC though is still on 8.1 Pro.

No doubt that Win 10 is overall a better OS (including security, depending how one defines 'big data snooping'). By coincidence, my two Win 7  machines had two Windows Updates just yesterday...as suggested before, I think those Win 7 updates now would only be for serious security issues. My Win 10 updated as well, but seems like it is Win 10's fav past time anyways.
