ASRock on Facebook posted a video mocking two motherboard makers for being ‘too inspired’ by their X570 AQUA ultra-premium design.

Wow....I mean the MSI one you could give a pass but the Asus...wow that is a very blatant copy. No wonder Asrock is mocking them.

I own the Asrock Aqua, very nice board.

...glasshouse ? Didn't the GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE LGA 1151 (full block) mobo precede the ASRock versions ? That said, for current/next gen, the Asus Glacial really is reminiscent of the ASRock...

I don't know, anymore most motherboards look the same to me with the silly RGB and all this "armor" and covers all over it.

In terms of straight up copying, yeah the ASUS board looks almost identical. The MSI board, I don't see it. Different color and only similarity really is all the covers all over it (when did that trend start?).

There is definitely a point where you will get overlapping designs and it is what it is frankly so long as it is not 90% a copy of another design then you are all good. However the ASUS is an obvious rip. Though I agree, I don;t see the issue with the MSI board.

What shocks me also are the 'rumoured' prices for these top-end Z590 mobos ! US$ 1,000 ++ ? I would rather get a mid-range X570 w/ strong VRM and RAM capabilities (including the latest Agesa improvements for IF etc) for less than half that...For US$ 1,000+, I want a top-end HEDT mobo with all the features.

Prices really have gone 'nuts' for PC components lately. I am glad I upgraded my main systems two years ago...and as I use them for productivity as well, I have a brand new HEDT board and RAM 'in reserve'.

Yeah the board prices are nuts, I mean I can't say much as I bought one but I agree that you are better off getting a strong board without the fancy monoblock and spend saved cash elsewhere.

Wow, crazy pricing. What is up with all these covers and "armor" or whatever they call it all over the boards too these days? I actually like seeing my motherboard. Not tacky plastic.

Or am I being dumb and that's just the monoblock?

...covers / "armor" are probably both metal and plastic bits...the CES '19 introduced original of this genre (afaik) was the Aorus Z390 Waterforce (pic below) which also had an option for an included 5+ GHz binned 9900K...

...as to the new Z590 mobos, also given the pricing, they still do not include enough CPU to PCIe lanes for the type of builds I usually do ?  ...'HEDT or bust' at these price points
