NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 12 GB memory expansion is considered set

Recommended Posts

In the meantime, also in view of the 16 GB memory expansion of the new Radeon graphics cards, a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 20 GB memory expansion was long rumored, although the first leaks had already spoken a different language in the summer of 2020, well before the actual launch. Because there was talk of a card with 11 GB or 12 GB memory expansion and a memory interface of 352- or even the full 384-bit, as I had suspected in my news back in June 2020 and later specified (see link below).

I hope these won't be ridiculously priced. I would like one so I can play newer games maxed at 4K. I thought my 2070 would be good for a while, but it actually struggles with newer games, even RDR2. I can only get 30fps medium settings in that.

Would grab this card if it actually has availability when it launches. It just seems odd to me that they'd be launching another 102 die card when they can't get 3080's out.

It probably will get worse before it gets better...elsewhere in EHW's news thread is the story about Chinese miners now buying up RTX3K laptops...assume that if/when the  3080 Ti launches, there will be a lineup of trucks right outside the factory gates... ?

And Tesla buying $1.5B of Bitcoin which drove the price up again isn't helping matters.

There are secret groups snagging stock and re-selling at msrp to gamers or posting in the group when gpu's hit the market. You get alerted on whicher gpu you request in a discord notification when stock is located. JedixJarf facilitates the operation on a private discord server.

Kind of like our modern day GPU Robinhood.

There's rumours that Apple is also planning on buying a ton of bitcoin as well as to start accepting it as payment for products/services. If true, I can actually see bitcoin reaching $60K by the end of the year.

Fortunately I have my own robin hood who kindly let me know when his pre-order notification came in and I used it instead of him for the 3090.

Fortunately, I bumbled into an opportunity re. the Strix 3090 oc when I was even trying or signed up for one...right time, right place, right (short) window of opportunity, at a great price, no less...about C$ 1,500 '''cheaper''' than elsewhere. But that doesn't make regular hardware planning for smaller businesses and work-from-home folks (never mind gamers) any easier with this crazy market....bumbling =/= good capital stock planning...

I freaking give up. TWICE I got a 3080 FE in my cart during the Best Buy drop, but they kept screwing around with the shipping or pickup options available that it was impossible to proceed to payment until oops its out of stock now.

I am done trying. What I get for skipping Pascal and Turing. Spent last year excited to build something new come this year. I'm finally just legitimately pissed off today.

...just got to keep an eye out continuously once you define three or four models of the Ampere you like to get. Per below, I just saw two FTW3 Ultras pop up on a trusted  online-site, and that affiliated store branch about 20km from here. I am sure they will be gone in a few hrs (I don't need a 2nd 3090 anyhow)...also note their sidebar about not taking online back orders, and of course the price is Can $...the point though is to start looking beyond just the big-box stores if you can.

...none of that changes the overall crazy market conditions and the frustrations. I have been looking for a certain X570 mobo and a 59xx for a while now, no cigar other than lunatic scalper stuff. I do have an unused and full-featured TR4 X399 board laying around and I wonder if I should just pick up another 2950X...not the most current CPU but the one I already have is a superb, fast setup, what with UMA, NUMA and a great IMC. I was going to wait for the next-gen TR based on Zen 3, but those too will be picked up and picked clean by miners and scalpers, I'm sure...never mind production capacity limits at TSMC

I am having the same issues with Best Buy, had the 3090 FE / STRIX OC in my cart, and cannot complete checkout cause of availability option issues.  I talked with Best Buy and their entire high-demand queue system is just an extra time-delayed button, it seemingly doesn't temporarily reserve any items, and it's still just a mad-dash to the finish line against who knows how many bots and potential buyers.  It just causes unnecessary additional confusion and frustration for potential buyers.

At this point I am just going to enter the Newegg Shuffles when they put up stuff that I may want, but not holding my breath at all. I think gaming GPUs are just hosed this year.

...the overall state of the consumer end (as opposed to enterprise) is pretty disgusting right now, not only for GPUs...also for certain mobos, CPUs etc etc, at least in North America. Whether it is mining, Covid-19 related work-and-play more from home, trade war impacts, capacity limits at the few top end foundries or all of the above, I have never seen the industry like this in the decades I have been into computers.

So I don't know what to say. I've been on these stock alert discords and a Zotac alert went out. Not my ideal card of choice but thought what the hell and tried. I snagged the 3070 Twin Edge OC. Just got the confirmation.

Looks like Bykski is going to make a waterblock for it so guess I'll be ok. I've given up on 3080 at this point.

...still, a big upgrade from the 980 Strix, though. Besides, when a 3080 or even 3090 does come up someplace else, you can always sell the 3070, probably at cost+ in the next little while.

BTW,  I have several GTX 980 Cls and still like those GPUs...two of them in SLI are doing daily basic PC duty and some retro 1080p gaming

...still, a big upgrade from the 980 Strix, though.

Yeah that was my thought as well. Nice upgrade from my GTX 980 for 1440p. The GTX 980 was a fantastic card for 1080p I had no complaints until I upgraded monitors last year lol.

Also looks like Alphacool is also making a GPU block for it. EK made one but its...aluminum. ? What is wrong with that company?
