  1. Don't forget a new cooler with these things. I really don't know what AMD was thinking with AM5. Preserving cooler compatibility with AM4 sounds good on paper, but in practice resulted in too many compromises that ironically make the thermals worse, like having the thicker IHS to maintain overall height with AM4. Just my opinion, but I find Zen 4 and the overall platform to be a dud. I will be interested to see what they end up doing with Zen 4 3D though. Now that 13th gen has dropped, and presumably these are coming in sooner this cycle (I heard Q1 next year), should be an interesting matchup, and maybe by then platform costs will be better.
  2. I just can't bring myself to think spending $1600 for a gaming graphics card makes sense, and despite rebrands to now a "90" class, to me these are no different then what a 1080 Ti or 2080 Ti were to their respective generations and product stacks for much cheaper. The cost of the cards are not explained by only increased wafer costs or inflation when we see Nvidia is making more money then they ever have with bigger margins then ever. Something doesn't track with that narrative. I'm also highly concerned about 500W or more going through a single part when my 350W 3080 Ti already acts like such a space heater during a gaming session. That said, despite the larger overall power draw vs the 3090, the improvements in the 4nm (refined TSMC 5nm) is clear. Samsung 8nm was just a refined 10nm which made it quite ancient by comparison. That said, just that transistor density increase is crazy! I will be curious to see how the increase in L2 cache looks for the 4080 and 4070 in the future with their 256-bit and 192-bit buses. All that said, can't argue with the impressive results and this is clearly the card for 4k120. I am also on a 48" C1 OLED, and when I honestly sit down and think about it, it takes me forever to get around to playing modern games. I am only now playing Control and have yet to ever fire up CP2077. At this point, I am content with what I have and will look forward to seeing what a future 50-series or RDNA4 (or whatever it ends up being) and seeing what the card that can do 4k120 in those product stack looks like in cost and power. Hopefully both will be much lower. I do really look forward to what you can do with this puppy under water though!
  3. Well washed the car and was going to put a sealant on when I got home, but then the wind kicked up something fierce and it got very dusty again, so decided well will take it sometime this week to rinse off again and do this properly. Then a bird decided to disrespect my hood today. Sigh. Had to get that off quick.
  4. Did both my oil change and did a slightly overdue transmission fluid drain and fill today. Managed to get 4 quarts drained from the transmission. Happened to buy 4 quarts since I usually get around 3.5-3.7 quarts drained, so good thing it didn't drain more than that lol.
  5. Oh wow, thank you very much! Likewise was not expecting to win anything, but had a lot of fun, and definitely look forward to the Country Cup.
  6. Very interesting. It seems literally everything except power supplies is getting hotter and more power hungry these days.
  7. What's the difference between the two sections on this form? This one is $225? EDIT: Looking at this more, it looks like the design you choose is $25, but the printing service itself is still $225.
  8. M105 and M205 is exactly what I have, but right now just using a cheap DA I got at Harbor Freight. I might upgrade one day, but its good enough for my use as a casual for now.
  9. I'm actually kinda surprised we haven't seen egg cooking memes with 3090's like we did with GTX 480's back in the day with Nvidia "Thermi". By comparison the GTX 480 seems downright power efficient .
  10. For a fan controller, I like the Aquacomputer Octo. Add a flow meter like a Highflow of some sort and then you can use Aquasuite to create some pretty nifty fan curves based on different data points like coolant temps or what not.
  11. I usually use Meguiar's as well, but was just curious. I am going to use some Iron remover spray on the next wash and then clay bar the car as well before I follow it up with a compound and polish. What do you like to finish with? Just wax, or something else. I was using this Turtle Wax Seal n Shine and it worked pretty well, was then curious if layering some wax on top of it is a good idea or not.
  12. This is the wrong way to go in my opinion and I hope that power hungry trend doesn't continue. My 3080 Ti already acts as a space heater during a gaming session. It's extremely noticeable and uncomfortable in the summer.
  13. Reminds me I need to get the ol' DA polisher out and once again attempt to paint correct. My paint is pretty bad. Black car. Found some etched spots and not sure what that's from, I am usually good at catching that stuff. Any recommendations for compound and polish?
  14. Meh...they should fix their platform. That's highly discouraging.
  15. Hmm...they are not counting my better submission in the DDR4 SuperPI 32M comp? They still show my 7 min 21 sec sub but I did a 7 min 8 sec sub. Actually might have even had a slightly better sub then this, I don't recall. I remember it was not syncing with my profile.
  16. I like your new tag line.
  17. You gotta post some pics or videos if you do.
  18. Wow, you sprung for a 4090 eh? Really impressive clock for air. I wonder what you can get out of it with waterblock. I heard unlike the 30-series which was power limited that these cards are more voltage limited.
  19. Desk and rig is in the bedroom, so really when I get a place that can have a dedicated office is when a test bench will happen.
  20. I don't have a place to put a test bench really, but it is definitely one of the first things I am getting when I do.
  21. This was a lot of fun and really for a small group I'd say we did pretty well. Was very limited on what I could participate in, but hoping I can get more involved in the future.
  22. Well when I get a dedicated space for the rig, I'll be joining you guys folding. As its in a bedroom now, its too much heat running that 3080 Ti even for a gaming session (I can't imagine the 4090). So will just cheer you guys on for now.
