  1. Oh man, remember the rumors flying around about the 7970 using XDR2 before it was announced? ?
  2. Because in the wake of RDNA2, and repeated criticism of the 10GB 3080 and 8GB 3070 and supposed Ti versions of these cards with double the VRAM in the future, it would have been a marketing blunder to then release this as a 6GB card. That said, 12GB on this class of card seems dumb all things considered. Sort of what the deal is now anyway prior to this announcement. 3080 is easily the hardest of the lineup to get. Considering it shares the same 102 die as the 3090, I'm sure Nvidia is plenty happy to keep selling 3090's to gamers seemingly desperate enough to pay for it at $1500+ vs a 3080 at $700+. Prosumers can praise the 3090 all they want but it is clear gamers are buying them up. If gamers stop doing that, I am sure more 3080's would show up and not just for miners. Have 3090's rot on shelves so to speak and you'll see a change. Until then, gamers seem completely willing to pay these high prices for a 3090, so I think Nvidia is perfectly happy to keep making them out of their 102 dies. More money for them. /tinfoil hat
  3. "Hey we know you've never been able to buy any current gen card....so here's next gen!" ?
  4. Let's be honest, lighter budget is getting completely priced out of high end market. It seems many don't even bat an eye paying $1k+ for a GPU anymore.
  5. This won't be any time soon. Damn you 3dfx. Why'd you have to blunder your way into bankruptcy and an Nvidia buyout.
  6. With the idea that this was written with a PR spin on the expectation of being leaked I have to think they still got something out of this even if they had to "walk it back". Scumbag move by Nvidia. Won't matter, every single 30-series card will sell the moment it is available.
  7. Is there really a good reason for all these X570 boards to have that little chipset fan?
  8. Ok they are both grossly overpriced, one worse than the other.
  9. Wow that PCB is tiny. So what I am getting out of this is that the 3060 Ti beats a 2080 Super. Anyway, nice review! FYI - Small error on the table of Ampere cards. Lists 24GB for the 3080.
  10. Very cool (pun intended)! External radiators?
  11. I think I am over it now. AIB models for 6800 XT released with $800 MSRPs. All 17 of them worldwide. What a joke. Between availability and actual pricing, I have no excitement left for this new gen and building a new rig next year to replace this one. Yeah will check back in March and maybe availability will be better. Not counting on pricing being any better. I guess at this stage just not holding my breath.
  12. Good info, but I'm going to need a source on this point. EDIT: Didn't mean to double-post. Think I messed up trying to double quote.
  13. This is why I think the Radeon cards are overpriced relative to their GeForce competition (though I think those are overpriced too, but for different reasons and that's another discussion). There's a lot of Nvidia features I will never use or care about, but...total package comparison between the two definitely shows some weaknesses of the software side of Radeon as well as some other features if you care about them and that makes the price of the Radeon cards less attractive. 6800 XT should have been $599 maximum. Honestly am very on the fence again. Cyberpunk is really the next game I am waiting for and with recent news may be forcing me back towards grabbing a 3080 or theoretical future 3080 Ti (though that one will depend on pricing).
  14. Interesting. Thanks for posting this. I do run at 1440p, but if needed maybe I just set it to 1080p.
  15. Yeah the launch was bad. That said, the AIBs haven't launched yet and from the rumor mill they got the bulk of the chips. I also don't think you'd be able to call it fully an abysmal failure yet until we see how the AIB launch goes, and how the restock game goes. If 2 months later it is still non-existent like the 3080 than yeah, I agree.
  16. Stock cooler 6800XT now #1 on FireStrike. Note LN2 cooled overlcocked 5950X. https://hwbot.org/submission/4606724_lucky_n00b_3dmark___fire_strike_radeon_rx_6800_xt_47932_marks https://hwbot.org/benchmark/3dmark_-_fire_strike/rankings?start=0&cores=1#start=0#interval=20
  17. I definitely feel on the fence again and will reiterate my position that its overpriced.
  18. Haha...I meant don't take my memory of what I thought I heard to the bank. ? Oh these will sell out tomorrow no doubt. Will be interesting to see how the restock game plays out vs 3080.
  19. Don't quote me, but I thought I heard 9am Eastern. I could be wrong.
  20. I mean makes sense. I'd assume a team has already been working on Zen 4 since these things take years to develop.
  21. Exactly. I think I'll just spring for the 5900X. 5950X is priced way higher than I would like, but I think I can cough up an extra $100 for the 5900X over the 5800X.
