  1. I'll lump into this because I've had some interesting things with my 4090. I have the Strix OC model and honestly just run it stock all the time. That combined with my 360 + MORA420 is enough to keep it comfortably around 40-45c under any stress test with the hotspot temp being around 5-7c higher than that. That being said, if I max my pump out to 100% from 60% I go down to 37-38c. So I definitely think these modern, denser-finned coldplates are a lot more restrictive. (I have a 7950X3D in the same loop as the 4090, both with Heatkiller Pro blocks on them). In the future I want to move my pump/res external so I can get it away from my head and turn up the speed while not being able to hear that awful coilwhine. For what it's worth, I also have the Cablemod cable - but I removed their shield thing as I found it made it harder to verify if the connector was 100% seated.
  2. Totally didn't forget to restart my folding client after playing VR for a bit
  3. Ah dang, just missed 100 WUs and don't think I was catching Fluxmaven fast enough.
  4. Going with my main PC and the HTPC. Added some fans to help evacuate the air from the HTPC... it works shockingly well.
  5. Oh I didn't even notice the similarity at first, but that's hilarious
  6. Took some nice pictures of my car after ceramic coating it. While it may look decent, there are some high spots on the bonnet and some light marring. Still need to polish it and use a proper ceramic coating.
  7. Do you notice a difference OC'ing the 4090? I found it didn't make much of a difference at the ~2850Mhz stock vs ~3045 Mhz +1100Mhz at all... so I left it stock.
  8. Yeah I thought it was going to be close between us, and then I checked later and you were miles ahead haha I only had a 1080 Ti and a 4090 mining.
  9. Got my 1080 TI and 4090 up, really neat to see how my 4090 is like 8+x faster than the 1080 Ti in folding lol.
  10. In, Alex_Blum As I won something prior - you can exclude me from the prizes
  11. Interested... but also not sure if this is going to go to the AirPods Max route where it doesn't really become as big as people think or the opposite like the Apple Watch where it quietly became super popular. I'm expecting the former, but hoping for the latter. VR is a good and fun tech, more players, diversity and public appeal is only better for developing it.
  12. Some amazing pictures! Something pretty awesome about a car that lets you go places like that. Have to ask... how is the reliability though? What have you had go wrong and what's the worst thing you had to fix?
  13. I got my 2x4TB SN850X's for CA$500 each. It's kinda neat upgrading from 128GB->512GB->4TB SSDs in 10 years, hopefully I can replace my storage with SSDs - but I'd want 16TB drives that are ~CA$500...
  14. Went to my mechanic to just do a once-over now that it's time to drive the car again, and replace the fluids as well. Good thing I did because where the axles bolt to the diff was dangerously loose... Much better... That explains why it was so terrible to drive... I thought the rubber bushings broke... Drincc well oil man Stock mounts don't look bad for 106k km and 17 years old;
  15. Nice, now hopefully its not too soft
  16. AoE2 has received so much love by the Devs that I think that deserves an honourable mention.
  17. Just got it - thanks! And thanks for helping organizing this event
  18. Neat, thanks! PM'ed. And I'll actually be able to get more than 1mil PPD finally
  19. Congrats to everyone, and hopefully I can get my 4090 running in time for the next competition It's always cool to see the Team Summary graph during these events;
  20. Just got a new GPU and I can't use it until the 21st due to waiting on a waterblock, so this is badly timed for me haha. I'll see if I can join with my CPU and 1080 Ti however! edit - unless I pull out a cursed combo edit 2 - In, AlexBlum
  21. I think the reporting around PSVR2's sales is really bad and has led to a perception that it isn't doing well. After all, bad reporting is all too common these days: Likely sales figures; Backed up by: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/91001/playstation-vr2-launch-sales-may-be-outpacing-original-psvr1-headset/index.html PlayStation VR2 first month sales figures reportedly below 300,000 units WWW.VG247.COM A new report suggests that initial PlayStation VR2 figures aren't looking so good in the first month the hardware has been out. + any others you can google. People seemingly want VR to fail and do bad. I have no idea why because it would only a net loss for everyone. But they pretty much do? OpenVR / SteamVR will work with pretty much anything, While you might get better performance here or there if it were native - it's not impossible to run the game and at only a small % impact of performance loss for the API translation.
  22. I don't think so, they're actively developing a new VR headset - Valve just work on different timelines and expectations than most. VR is surprisingly growing (honestly thanks to Meta more than anything) but I do think the Index (and Quest 2) really helped push it from niche into mainstream appeal. That's not Valve's fault, that's Meta/Oculus for refusing to support OpenVR. OpenVR is literally that, open source VR API for anyone to use - but a lot of other headsets refuse to support it native. At least Steam offers an OpenVR translator. For what it's worth, some games (MSFS2020) support the OpenXR API. You can download it via the MS Store and run it via that instead of the OpenVR translator in SteamVR. Should be worth some performance.
  23. Woah, that keyboard looks pretty damned cool. Love the volume knob... giving me great ideas for when my fiance's build. She also wants that all white / pale pink theme. Where did you get the bubble tea numpad enter key?
  24. I absolutely love VR, it's a completely new way to experience games. It gives a much better feeling of the 'world' that you're in and exploring it is a lot more 'real' feeling versus being on a 2D screen. I am going through HL2:VR lately and it's really awesome to experience the world in VR, and I can't wait for Hogwarts Legacy VR mod to come out so I can try that. I don't care if I am 'worse' at a game because it's in VR, it's far more immersive and more fun. Also trying MSFS2020 in VR lately is mind blowing (even if its at like 40-45fps on minimum settings w/frame gen). I think a lot of people that discredit VR haven't tried it in it's full potential... it's like discrediting an OLED screen versus a TN screen when you only edit Word documents on both... if you aren't using the OLED screen to it's strength and potential of course you won't understand what the appeal of it is Also the barrier to entry isn't that high, you can pick up a second hand Oculus/Meta Quest 2 for ~$200-300 and it's 90% of the way there to an amazing VR system. No other trackers, etc. required.
