  1. Made some decent progress on a RAM OC profile that keeps voltages at or below self-imposed caps (mostly just implemented suggestions from Kedarwolf of OCN, they were unsolicited, but fruitful). I have started using y-cruncher bench 2.5B as a RAM OC/performance diagnostic tool. MannIX-ITA continues to refine his benchmarking utility. It helped me eliminate some clock stretching that I had missed. I strongly encourage folks to check his utility out. 2. GB/s values in the "Memory" row, just makes things all tingly.
  3. I've been significantly busier at work the past few days (it's about time, I was starting to get a hair nervous). Consequently, I haven't had the opportunity to experiment as much recently. Some impressions I've formed in the meantime. Zentimings/Aida64 screenies are quick, easy, and over-rated. They don't provide any sort of "useable" performance delta between one configuration and another. I did install MannIX-ITA's new utility early this morning. Seems pretty nice. I didn't have time to study my results (or figure out why my max wattage/temp occurred on a 24t test rather than a 32t test)

  5. @The Pooksuggested that Team Blue is being hamstrung in these tests by the use of mediocre DDR4 memory. I am not informed enough to have an opinion either way, but it does seem like something to keep in mind when comparing these CPUs.
  6. Very handy material to just have around!
  7. A user even less experienced than myself had requested some representative timings for B-die 16GB DIMMs @ 3800Mt/s over in the big Ryzen RAM thread on OCN. I threw up a picture of my settings for his perusal. A few days later another user, Taraquin, suggested some "easy" changes to my settings. After implementing most of them and validating stability I have yet to see much of a change in performance. Though I do not think I have tested performance with the right tool (whether the settings will make a difference or not) as temperatures in my "lab" are too high at the moment to make a fair comparison to tests I had run previously. I'll probably continue implementing most of his remaining suggestions very slowly and re-verifying stability with each step. I did learn one DDR4 timing "rule" (actually I don't know if this rule is applicable to only DDR4, or how "firm" a rule it is, or if it matters in the least ). Per Taraquin, tRP + tRAS = tRC. I keep hoping I will stumble upon a repository of all these "rules". I also hope that finding said repository will improve my understanding of how all the different timings interact. I do still plan to limit vSOC to 1.1v or less going forward. This I believe will take many of the more "extreme" profiles I've seen off the table, but that is likely a good thing for a novice like myself.
  8. Sadly, I cannot claim to be 'cado, but the images do appear for me .
  9. I was aware, just had to go tangential because...yeah .
  10. True Being serious for a moment, and having not tried any of the "universal" RGB control "apps", do any of them work "universally" or are things still very hit and miss? Do manufacturers continue to spam RGB bloatware for "data mining" purposes or is there more to it than that?

  13. I was pretty sure I had seen that cooler before, and I was actually correct this time .
  14. Strangely, everywhere I believe there should be a picture, I see a minus sign .
  15. No argument from me, and I agree, politics and social issues are probably best discussed in a place intended for such discussion. Forgive my failure to keep my toes out of that pool. I will admit that I failed take into account the difference between "gender" (at least as it is now defined) and biological "sex". I thank you for your patient and understanding clarification of the term. Up until this point in my life, in my head "sex" = "gender". I will need to train myself to distinguish between the two . A final thought, I know corporations will continue to ask in surveys, as they want all the "meta data" for their marketing programs they can get, but if I took your meaning correctly, it would best if they did not ask that particular question in a "multiple choice" format. If there are finite choices, that implies finite boxes to fit oneself in yes?
  16. I confess, this confuses me. I have no desire to belittle anyone or shoehorn them into some classification they don't feel applies to them, but 6?!?!? I'll only peak into the can of worms (rather than fully open it) and suggest 3 should be enough. Male/Female/Other. Maybe I'm just insensitive and out of touch . Whatever the case may be, for the time being, I just don't get it. On the other hand, it wouldn't really cost me anything if they had 20 different options for that particular answer on their survey. Live and let live I suppose (with one small caveat, genetic males participating in contact sports with genetic females without the express consent of all the participating genetic females is not something I support and is of particular importance to me with a 17-year-old daughter at home).
  17. I plan to keep it "before" for maximum forum "bling", but it's great to have options .
  18. As someone who is considering replacing his RAM heatsinks in the future (not much point till I've learned quite a bit more about tuning RAM), I'd be very interested in any tricks of the trade. I'm sure there are other videos and/or text-based tutorials out there already, but I'd be all ears for anything you wish to share. Though perhaps Storm-Chaser's life would be simpler if we didn't plop it down in his thread .

  21. A lot of high-power fans controlled by minimal MB headers (without getting near overloading said header)? Edit: Possibly simplify cable management as well?
