Yeah now that my Crosshair VIII Hero is in my wife's rig, her OS is running off an 860 Evo SATA and it boots fast and loads programs quickly. There's a very minor speed difference/OS loading faster in my rig, which has a 512GB 970 Evo that I got when I first built my Zen 3 setup - not realizing the 970 Evo was only PCI-E 3.0 while the Crosshair VIII Hero supported PCI-E 4.0. Other than higher numbers in CrystalDiskMark I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between 4.0 and 5.0, but I can understand wanting to upgrade to the newest thing available, too.

+1 for ASUS from me, too. I've only used ASUS motherboards in every build I've done, once I had the money to build my first pc in 2009. I went AM5 and am an early adopter of the 7900X3D. For gaming, it's amazing. When I first got it, it took like 45 seconds to post fully training memory, but they've fixed that now (I had similar issues with Zen 3 and a Crosshair VIII Hero when it launched). However, you would be getting a board and platform that is essentially EOL except for the Raptor Lake refresh in October, supposedly, and the BIOS and platform should be mature enough that you won't have teething issues. In my family we still have a working Z170 and Z270 ASUS boards, one is in my mom's gaming rig (she plays very simple games like Bejeweled 3 and Mahjong solitaire), and the Z170 is in my brothers low end gaming rig with an i3-6100. I know the Z270 is a ROG Strix but the Z170 is a mid tier board that he wanted because it lights up orange lol and his build is is in an old orange Corsair case. I also have a 2011 Crosshair V Formula (AM3+), FX-8350 and G.skill Trident X DDR3 2400mhz that works great in storage, planning on trying to sell it here eventually. Anyway, point I'm trying to make is that they've all been rock solid and still run and I have never had problems with ASUS boards requiring an RMA or board catching fire etc. If you're just going to run some memory at XMP and let the thing boost on it's own you'll probably be fine with that board. Hope this helps, that's my 2 cents.

Well if people are willing to pay it, I guess it could work, but you can't really lower the price of the rig to offset shipping or you'd only make like $50.

I kind of like this stats page, because it updates more often than axipher's score card. Whenever a foldathon is going on I obsessively check my phone for stats but the other one only updated every few hours.

Good news, I have an update. The Doctor I was seeing who diagnosed me (wrongly) with bursitis referred me to his partner, who handles impingements and is sports medicine. He wanted to send me for a special CAT scan using the Stryker protocol, and the imaging will be sent to them in Germany for them to construct a 3D model of my hips that I assume he can rotate, zoom in on, and so forth. The CAT scan got approved by my insurance and it's on Monday, and it takes around 2 weeks for Stryker to construct a 3D model for him, at which point I will have an office visit, and presumably, be scheduled for the operation. The purpose of this is for him to know exactly where the impingements are, and he can perform a procedure using that data to go in my hips and use essentially an angle grinder or sander to get rid of the excess bone matter in the hip, as well as to try to round off the top of the femur (mine is mishaped; it's genetic). I will have to do 6-12 weeks of physical therapy, and note this is only for the left hip, the same process will have to be repeated for the right, including the imaging. He can start on the right 6 weeks after doing the left while I'm still recovering, I can be sent for another CAT, etc.

That bandwidth is impressive, but the L3 Cache bandwidth speed is half of mine and the latency like 4 times higher. I'm sure it can still run games ok, especially GPU bound ones, but that slow L3 is less than ideal for gaming. Do you plan to fold on the chip as well as the 4090s?

I just checked out the Razer Kishi v2 and it looks sick. Like a lot better than the Nintendo Switch joy cons are. I have no real reason to emulate games on my phone, particularly PS1 as my PS2 is modded and backwards compatible and I have a few PS1 memory cards. I much prefer to play on a CRT as well. And for any other system, well I have pretty much all of them so.. Couple years ago I played through all of Xenogears again on my PS2.

Since my GIMP skills have improved substantially, I made a new and smaller banner in the OP that says "EHW Retro" instead of "EXHW Retro". I made this club and the other banner when I was quite new to the site, so... @UltraMega you playing anything on the PSX emu on your phone? I'm also curious to see what Bluetooth controller you use when you play.

Looks good. Good job bro. Here's hoping it sells. Seems like a pretty good 1080p Ultra system, I personally have no idea if a RTX 3070 can handle 1440p or higher, though. Edit: also do you overclock them at all before you sell them? Set PBO settings and set up an Afterburner profile for the GPU? If you did you could probably charge a little extra.

So the cost per kWh here is 9.6 cents. Since it's summer and we're using the A/C (though it's set to 78F) I was going to stop folding for a few months. But I really want to and we worked it out and the cost would only be about $34 a month. Actually, it may be a little less as I used 500w power consumption for the calculation, but my Kill-A-Watt meter as well as GreenWithEnvy show the card using 350, 400, 450 or 500 watts depending on work unit. I ran it by my wife and she's ok with me continuing to fold, because I really want to, and we can afford it. Also I was folding in January and February when it was 10F outside or less and the heat was going, and we had high natural gas bills as well as power bills. Like $250 combined. Heat isn't an issue at all really because my rig is in a finished basement that's probably 10F cooler than upstairs. The heat IS an issue if I run the 3060 for foldathons in wife's office, I was pretty shocked at how hot it made the room, it was sweltering. TL;DR I got the ok that we can afford for me to continue to fold over the summer.

Way faster on mobile in Firefox with Privacy Badger, Ghostery, Ublock Origin and HTTPS Everywhere. No 3-5 second load time when loading the next page of a thread. It didn't bother me all that much, even though I'm on mobile more often than the desktop. It is also faster in Linux in Firefox on my desktop with the same addons plus NoScript. Good work and hope this information helps. If I start to experience slowdown using my browsers and config, I'll be sure to let you know privately, @ENTERPRISE

You may need to wait til Winter with the window cracked and if you have notes of your benchmark scores, that's going to help if you manage to OC your RAM. Try the timings that kaliz posted when you do. Also, it needs to be stated that on Ryzen, RAM OC also involves keeping the RAM and Infinity Fabric coupled in ratio, which in turn runs the L3 cache slightly faster which also helps in games especially. So it's not just your RAM you are OC'ing.

Well, tbh I have really no clue on Intel OR AMD chips as I don't follow mobile CPUs very much, so I have no idea. If you Google the processor name (if listed), you should be able to see specs on either Intel Ark or AMDs page for that chip. Only consider the latest gen chips. They sell lots of laptops that aren't cutting edge anymore, like with 12th gen Intel or whatever. As far as a 4070, I said that as a minimum. If your goal is to run AAA games in 7 years on low or whatever, considering it's mobile, you're probably going to need one with the 4090. Remember you get what you pay for so if longevity is your concern make sure you check the model number of the CPU on the sites i mentioned. If a website/retailer doesn't give that exact model name of the CPU in the system for you to look up, don't even consider it.
