[TheVerge] Xiaomi’s Mi Mix Alpha is almost entirely made of screen

The “surround screen on the Alpha wraps entirely around the device to the point where it meets the camera module on the other side. The effect is of a phone that’s almost completely made of screen, with status icons like network signal and battery charge level displayed on the side. Pressure-sensitive volume buttons are also shown on the side of the phone. Xiaomi is claiming more than 180 percent screen-to-body ratio, a stat that no longer makes any sense to cite at all.

I like this idea for a phone, especially over a folding one. Mostly because the screen can still be made of glass instead of plastic, so it's much harder to scratch it. It won't need a notch/hole in the display for a selfie camera because you can just turn the phone around and use the main camera. I don't think I want to pay over £2,000 on a phone though.

I also wonder how it will deal with being dropped. I can't imagine it will end well.

Looks cool. Not really worth the price though tbh. I imagine the dropping risk would be similar to other smartphones, except you now have all sides to worry about.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that you can't really buy a cover for this phone, but I think most people who could afford one, could also afford to replace it, should it be damaged from a drop.

Hmmm. It looks great, very sleek but the practicality could be an issue. As mentioned by gonX, you cannot really buy a cover for this phone as it completely defeats the point of the phone lol. The other issue is while I do not tend to drop my phone...like at all, this phone would just be too scary to get our of your pocket, one drop and you are virtually doomed !
