The temptation to just buy at scalper prices was of course there

From a business standpoint I get this temptation, a little more write-off is not that bad. I'm glad though that you were able to buy them for a normal price.

I'm glad I got my first 3090 right after launch at a local shop. Compared to what they go for in the States it was a bit more, but it's been the same forever. USD price is the same as EU, though the Dollar is cheaper than the Euro. And after a few weeks I saw the second 3090 for sale, for €50 less than the first so I didn't hesitate and bought it. And I'm glad I did, cause the price went up €500 and sometimes even more. What they are asking now over here is just crazy, and I'm not tempted to buy anything for that much extra over what I paid a few months ago.

so the point is to keep your cool' re. scalper prices and just do the physical grazing of local outlets

We don't have anything like that over here, no showroom or hardware store, just webshops. I would love to wander through the Microcenter and enjoy all the hardware :classic_biggrin:

I knew the card was a soft launch for the real winner here, the Tie. I will henceforth no longer pronounce it "Tee Eye".

I want one of them Tie-s! :classic_laugh:

Love the "tie" jokes.

Anyway I just don't get this card. Titans at least somewhat made sense as a halo product with some maybe flimsy but at least driver level differentiations from mainline GeForce products that made it a halo product in the GeForce lineup, but still prosumer. The 3090 is not a Titan and it merely having 24GB is not what defines it as a Titan or not.

In reality there is what...maybe 10% difference between the 3080 and the 3090? Them now slotting something inside that 10% slot and pricing it the way they are is odd to me. Frankly neither the 3080Ti or the 3090 should exist as halo products. Going back to the 780Ti, 980Ti, 1080Ti, and even the 2080Ti, they offered sizable performance increases a whole tier above the base xx80 part.

So not only is the 3080Ti the most expensive xx80Ti part ever, it offers the least performance over a base xx80 part ever, in single digits. And you damn well know they will be making more 3090's and 3080Ti's than 3080's with their GA-102 dies now.

This whole gen makes no sense in general. Now gamers getting screwed by crypto miners, shortages, etc. now have Nvidia to thank for further screwing.
