Texas Instruments reportedly behind chip shortage

Recommended Posts

Quote

As reported by DigiTimes, some Taiwan-based tech manufacturers — think smartphones, PCs, and related gadgetry — have singled out Texas Instruments as being at the epicenter of the chip shortage's widespread production pandemonium (via WinFuture). In case the name "Texas Instruments" sounds familiar to you, that's because you very well may have used one of its calculators in your lifetime. That's the company being accused of having a vice grip on global technology output.

This accusation is based on the fact that Texas Instruments manufactures analog chips that are essential for duties such as PC voltage regulation. Said chips are a fundamental part of much computing technology, and are in a more dire supply situation than the advanced, specialized chips the likes of TSMC and co. produce.

The aforementioned Taiwan-based sources say Texas Instruments' inability to ramp up production capacity is the fundamental problem underpinning everything else.

I took these pictures yesterday of all the semi's waiting for chips at the Kenworth plant in Chillicothe, OH. They couldn't even finish the 3rd extra parking lot up before putting some trucks in it, but this is about 3,000 trucks waiting.

It's not just chips that are in short supply.   I'm working on the construction of a new public library that was suppose to be completed in June, but the roofing material isn't expected to arrive until June.  So in a couple of weeks the framing of the interior walls will be completed...then its just going to sit there waiting for a roof.  Wall and ceilings can't be finished without the building being water tight.
