This week, a Taipei YouTuber who may be part of the Asus ROG motherboard team prototyped an adapter for using DDR4 memory sticks on motherboards designed only for DDR5. This trick may alleviate a dilemma facing those building or buying new computers with Intel’s new Alder Lake processors.

Damnit. I just bought 2 more DDR5 modules too.

Possibly better off going DDR5 anyway. Though I have heard depending on your DDR4 it can outperform this current gen of DDR5.

My (hopefully) last DDR4 Sammy-B set I bought is 4000 CL15 nominal, that could do well in the setup you referenced for Alder Lake.

According to the retailers I chat with, the DDR5 shortage is a big problem for them as it reduces 'mobo upgrade and related peripheral' sales...

Yeah I mean DDR4 at those specs is great and certainly does not "need" upgrading, though when "want" comes into it...your in trouble haha.

Yeah the shortage will be a massive impact on suppliers and retailers selling DDR5 related components...Mobo's etc.

Would have been nice to pickup some of that sweet sweet DDR4 B-die stuff. But alas, was way more than I wanted to spend for RAM. Guess we'll see if I regret it later.

It wasn't exactly cheap, but compared to the initial release of DDR5, a good deal nonetheless. In addition, I have 4 sets of similar G-Skill 'GTZR' which wonder between HEDT quad-channel work machines and other systems...the 4000 CL15 is just a slightly higher-binned version of that, so it is easily compatible for mix-and-match.
