Older PSU, but been in a parts closet for years

I've got an older Corsair AX850 PSU (the gold one) I was planning to repurpose for my current build coming up. I probably bought it in 2011 and it's been sitting in my parts closet since 2015 when it came out of the old build that this current build replaced. Current build has an AX750 in it. I also have an unopened AX1200 from around that same era from an RMA. Kind of have a surplus of PSU's in my parts closet.

 

Any reason this wouldn't be fine to use? I realize it's now 11 years old, but given it hasn't actually been used for 7 years, seems like it should be fine?

 

Otherwise was going to look at just picking up a Seasonic Focus-GX most likely at the local MC, but if I don't have to, then not gonna.

It's a PSU, not an edible dairy product. It won't spoil from sitting in the closet for years. 

 

Theoretically, it should be in exactly the same condition as when you put it away. If it was fine then, and nothing went amiss with your storage (like spilling milk inside it), it should be fine now.

I was thinking the same thing, but thought I'd make sure I wasn't being dumb. Thanks for confirming.

Only thing I'd be worried about would be the caps degrading inside of it.  If you're comfortable with it, I'd pop the cover off and just take a quick peek in there and make sure none of the caps are bulging.  If the caps are all flat on top, you're good to go.  Be careful when in there, do NOT touch the contacts side of the caps, just in case.  Capacitors do degrade sitting on the shelf sometimes.

But again.....if they're flat, you're good to go.  There's a VERY good chance its perfectly fine though.
