The Amusement Of Family.

Recommended Posts

I'm sure many of us have had these days, you get a phonecall from a family member or a friend with one of the silliest questions you can possibly think of to be asked.

This morning was that moment for me. i got a phonecall at 8am from my mother. needless to say her system is a sum of my sandy bridge era parts, but it does fine as all she does is office work.

i got the dreaded 8am "well i cleaned the filters and around the desk yesterday, and now my computer wont turn on"

so i went classic :

Turns out the plug had wiggled JUST loose enough in the back of the PSU to not make a connection. AND her HDMI cable had come out the back of the monitor.

The second story falls on my brother. its rather short. it sums up like this:

Brother : hey bro

Me: yeah?

Brother : how do i setup email on my iphone?

Me : *laughter* go to the apple store

END RESULT: he actually went and stood 2 hours in line at the local apple store to have his email setup.

What's funny is that I've been out of the technical work side of IT since like 2014 for anything support related, but everyone assumes "IT, must know how to fix everything". Sure if its hardware related, np. Windows problems these days? Forget about it. I wouldn't even know how to navigate and find half the stuff in 10/11. When I was doing desktop support it was largely still Windows XP, slowly transitioning to Windows 7 lol. I'm still on 8.1 on my current PC. Still not sure if I should put 10 or 11 on the new one.
