AMD chipset drivers vs Windows drivers for X570

Recently I saw that AMD released some updated chipset drivers. And I avoided early AMD x570 chipset drivers for a while as I had some strange issues with them. Sata storage drives dropping and coming back online completely empty etc. 

 

I have seen AMD has updated their chipset drivers recently and I am now wondering they are these days vs the stock windows SATA drivers etc? Performance wise stability wise etc?

I am using the "new" AMD chipset drivers myself.  I cannot speak to SATA reliability as I have the SATA ports disabled in BIOS.  I have not experienced any USB/General Performance issues yet.  However, there is some "chatter" in various threads over at OCN about a decrease in performance after installing them (and the inability to rollback to previous version by simple uninstall/reinstall).  The amount of performance lost being reported is easily attributable to temperature differences at the time of benching (150-200 CBR23 MT points for example).  Basically, too early to tell with any certainty IMO.

I updated to the most recent AMD chipset drivers and there is a minor performance hit around L3 cache, but that is likely due to select security mitigation from what I have read. I never had any SATA or USB issues to begin with, and the latest drivers work well also in that regard on my Win 10 systems.

 

Mobo vendors also tend to list 'their' chipset drivers on their support pages...sometimes, they can have their own 'versions', so may be check your mobo's support pages.

 

There has also been a flurry of Windows patches lately (including btw for Win 7), perhaps related to geopolitical events, and they do seem to cost a bit of performance as well. Better safe than sorry ?!

I just scored 13304 R23 at stock settings on my 3800X with my 3600 18-20-20-44 XMP enabled. I haven't done the drivers yet. But I am on a fully updated fresh (installed yesterday) win10 so I am pretty sure I am on the windows SATA/chipset drivers. For just a home user who uses his pc for gaming and just general use can said windows security updates be rolled back?

...it depends on the update. I have rolled back some security patches while others were 'sticky'; 'feature and optional' updates are usually easier to roll back. BTW, if you have a fresh install and a spare drive, you might as well make a copy of your new install and set it aside 'for future reference', unpolluted and all that.

 

13304 R23 sounds good, btw.

I have the latest chipset drivers installed on my X570 mobo and cannot say I have had noticed any problems. Then again I do not benchmark everytime I update my drivers, only if I notice any issues real world. I have stutters now and again but I believe that to be an issue with TPM which AMD are addressing in May with there 1.2.0.7 AGESA.
