There is a Founder’s Edition of the RTX 3090 Ti. The card presented at CES 2022 will become available for sale. We have some new photos of this new semi-custom design by NVIDIA, that will become available though select retail partners as well as NVIDIA’s own official webstore.

 

The card retains the 3-slot configuration and the size of the original RTX 3090 Founders SKU. The RTX 3090 Ti is the new flagship Ampere SKU, featuring GA102-350 GPU and 21 Gbps GDDR6 memory.

Do they mean GDDR6X?

 

Anyway, I think this card is a joke personally. 100W more power draw for 5-10% more performance?  They've hit diminishing returns on this. I wonder what the actual MSRP will turn out to be.

...I also wonder about a.) usefulness b.) availability and c.) actual pricing re. the 3090 Ti. It's quite late in the Ampere product cycle already with the next-gen architecture enterprise models just introduced (H100), and consumer versions (RTX 4Kx / Ada Lovelace) already sampling with vendors.

 

As to power consumption, my admittedly-well running 3090 Strix on stock bios is already at 450W, with measured peaks at over 500W with the PL slider maxed...never mind the KPE 520W / 1KW custom bios also on there...

 

RTX 4Kx apparently use up to 4x 8 pin of the current PSU PCIe cables, or those new PCIe connector versions just being introduced, with custom models apparently exceeding 600W...

 

Even if it is 'only' 520W, what about the electricity consumption and climate change ? That's probably not a hot topic w/ enthusiast computing but still one which will loom much larger for all. My family has reduced our carbon footprint significantly via just a few conscious decisions, but my enthusiast computing continues in the opposite direction...

Yeah, considering rising energy costs, it just feels kind of, I don't know...irresponsible? I'm willing to be in the minority for thinking that way in the enthusiast community as I know many won't care in the pursuit of performance. But just seems like going the wrong direction to me. You used to get more performance AND lower power draw. This feels more like hitting a wall and throwing as much power through it as possible to get the performance.

...what I actually find most interesting about this particular Hof OCL is the PCB and its dual new hi-po power connectors...because I've read several times now that the RTX 4 Ada L is supposed to be pin-compatible with the 3090 Ti. So this could be a bit of a preview of what is to come. Hopefully, Buildzoid gets his hands on this PCB for a detailed review.

I believe I am correct that the Corsair 1600axi is still the only digital control "big boy" on the market?  When Seasonic/EVGA/Super Flower manage to bring something of equal performance to market, I will be very tempted to get one.

Whatever the f happened? My best guess is something like the following is happening, since graphics complexity is squared, so along with a generational 1.5x perf improvement, you have to keep increasing power draw to make up for the gap.
