Is anyone watching Picard?

UltraMega

Recommended Posts

I've been watching it... not enjoying it, just watching it. Before I get deep into a rant, is anyone else here watching Picard? It's surprisingly bad, almost impressive how much they've managed to derail the ST formula and replace it with something that's not even on par with average generic sifi.

It's a Disney product now, so it's to be expected.

Walt is probably rolling in his grave.

It's a Paramount owned franchise. Before, the rights to ST were broken up between CBS and Paramount but CBS and Paramount merged so now Paramount owns everything.

Love it, but I'm a huge next generation fan. Michele says she didn't like 1st season but I liked that one too.

Hmm well I'm happy for you then. It's fun to see familiar characters returning but beyond that, nothing about it feels like TNG to me, and what they went with instead was a lot worse.

Also, in TNG it's established that Picards mom lived to old age.

Picard is too old to remember that information about his mother.

I enjoyed it personally but being a fan of TNG, I was excited to see how things panned out for Picard. Ive been mostly happy with it. Not watched season 2 just yet but I know season 3 is bringing the TNG crew back together, for me that is going to be the true tell if they can hold it together.

Sure but if you're a writer for a new ST show featuring Picard, probably would have been a good idea to rewatch TNG.

But continuity errors aside, it's just not Star Trek. It's generic sifi with a trek theme but very little about the way the characters act and what they do seems like the way people would behave in any trek shows before the new ones. I wouldn't mind the shift in format if the plot were more interesting, but at least 3 of the episodes in season 2 so far could basically be skipped because nothing happens. The overall plot for season 2 so far feels like it might have worked for a 2 part episode but it's stretched very thin over the a whole season. Visting Picards childhood issues with his parents was not what I expected from a trek show...

And on that note, why would Picard's mom just be left unattended while she has major mental episodes in Star Trek? I mean, they have advanced medical technology that could heal her in minutes but instead they don't treat her and leave her in a dangerous situation all while lying to Picard about it. None of it feels right or logical.

Well, if you're anything like me when it comes to what you expect from a ST show, go into season 2 with very low expectations. But with that said I really didn't like season 1 much, especially how it ended. Data has basically been trapped in a virtual jail cell all this time and then his only role is to ask Picard to end his suffering? I mean, I'm impressed that they made Data's death somehow worse than it was in Nemesis.

I hadn't heard that season 3 will be bringing more TNG characters back but apparently it's going to be the last season. 3 seasons for such a big name show is definitely a sign of failure IMO.

IMDB is flooded with fake reviews for Picard so the score is totally inaccurate. The fake reviews really stand out to because they never mention anything specific about the show, but if you look at the reviews for the most recent episode you can see that people are not happy.

I liked season 1 better than 2, also a huge TNG fan. Season 2 is a mess.
