Getting all my ducks in a row before my "de-lid" project, quick question

Recommended Posts

what do you all recommend me to use to cover over the few caps on the CPU so the liquid metal doesnt have a chance of shorting them out. DO I order liquid electrical tape, nail polish.... Im not sure what to buy!? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.  Just getting this 12900KS ready for the supercool direct die block.

Good question.

Liquid electrical tape and nail polish should work fine. Thermal Grizzly sells conformal coating (It's red). I use This. UV reactive so you can see where you put it.

I've used clear nail polish before.

just an update.  I bought the cheapest LGA 1700 cpu on amazon (G6900) for 42$ to practice the delid on so I dont ruin my KS chip.   The G6900 just came in with my delid tool so I gave it a go.  Was straight forward and i wasnt worried at all (prob cause this is a 42$ cpu and nothing ever goes wrong with the cheap ones!) im sure ill be extremely nervous when I do my sweet baby 12900KS!  Here is a quick delid pic of a G6900 die.  Looks like it also was soldered.

It's always a little nerve-wracking. I've done it at least 4 times and I haven't broken one yet. After doing it once with a razor, I bought the tool.
