If you are first to market with a chip that can boost to 5.7GHz, you can charge whatever you want. That would be a tough pill to swallow considering the mobo prices are going to cost just as much.

Yea,  I would expect to see price drops pretty quickly on these, especially since consumers cpu market is starting to cool down with most people having already moved past the quad core i7 phase and not being in much need of a cpu upgrade.

If these rumors are true, amd can keep the new cpu's. I'm not paying $700 just for a cpu. The $299 I spent on my 5800x was already a tough pill to swallow. $700 for a cpu, $1500+ (reportedly) for a new 4090, we're already over my entire current rig's cost with just 2 components!

When i saw this i ordered a 5700g for my server. It a mobile chip disguised. 5900hx same as my laptop.

The 6 and 8 core parts are only $30 more. Then what zen 3 launched at. $100 more for a 16 core isn't too bad. But $250 more for the 12 core is weird.

Zen 3 was also $50 more than Zen 2 at launch across the stack. Plus their lack of a 5700X made the eight core part (5800X) more like $100 more than an eight core Zen 2 part.

 

It ain't just Nvidia, AMD knows when they can charge more too. Personally I am happy I upgraded now and didn't both waiting for this stuff. It's getting far too expensive.
