I can't possibly agree with this more.  Nickel coating inevitably flakes and corrodes, plexi cracks, and I couldn't care less about RGB. 

 

The biggest enemies of long term uptime on loops are corrosion and growth. Copper/acetal blocks (which look that best anyhow), coupled with epdm tubing, and some biocide and inhibitor will allow you to have loops running 24/7 for more than a year with the only maintenace being topping off the res.  If you don't care about bling, then you can pay less, and end up with a more reliable loop.

I thought we had figured out over a decade ago that solid copper loops were the way to go?  My last loop was on a 771 converted 775 board with a Xeon X5470 and a HD7970 (so about a decade ago).  Used full copper everything, distilled water, and a kill coil.  That loop was fine for like 2 years with zero maintenance.  The one before that was on my 2500k, also all copper with distilled + killcoil, and I ran that one I think for around 3 years with zero maintenance.  The kid I sold the 2500k rig to used it as it sat until the rig was retired, so it was basically as reliable as a CLC.

Idk, I don't run water anymore because of added cost.  But if I did, I'd still be rocking the tried and true system I've always used.

Problem isn't us, it's manufacturers releasing less and less pure copper blocks. They keep forcing us to buy Nickel *.

This should be pretty easy for CPU blocks, but it feels like every GPU block I see these days are nickel plated except for some Heatkiller stuff. Perhaps there is more, but I feel like I don't ever see any copper GPU blocks outside of them.

 

That said, I 100% agree that getting nickel out of watercooling is a great idea. Only use it if you want to liquid metal something really. For any other normal use, copper is the way to go, and I will likewise be looking at switching to copper if possible next time I build something.

Me too. If it was in the budget, I'd just get an Intel 16GB model just to have it. Maybe in the future.

...I did notice that the 'stock Intel' A770 comes with 1x8 and 1x6 pin pcie connectors, while many of the custom AIB A770s have 2x8 pins (none of those new-fangled power connectors though). With the extra power and some 'custom vbios', this thing could still be interesting.
