Musk Agrees to Buy Twitter for $44 Billion, Averting Trial

This follows a report by Bloomberg, in which Musk reportedly offered to buy the social media app for $54.20 a share — the original offer Musk proposed back in April. In July, however, Musk withdrew his offer to buy the company; in response, Twitter announced it would file a lawsuit to try and get Musk to complete the deal.

"We received the letter from the Musk parties which they have filed with the SEC. The intention of the Company is to close the transaction at $54.20 per share," a Twitter spokesperson told IGN via email.

So tired of hearing about Musk. He's gone from tech entrepreneur to wannabe diva to international troll. I don't care about twitter, but it will be morbidly interesting to see what happens to one of the world's biggest social media platforms when it gets taken over by a guy who seem more and more like he's going through the origin story for a Marvel super-villain.

Don't know why he wants to buy that cesspool....other than just wanting to 'stick it' to the snowflakes.

Ahh yes, when always good to make sure the "snowflakes" are being teased on twitter. 🙄

Maybe he never really wanted to buy it, maybe he still doesn't really want to. Given how this has gone so far, until he actually does buy twitter the deal still seems up in the air. Not that I really care either way. I'd actually prefer that he not buy it simply because he doesn't seem like the right kind of person that values value free speech, but we'll see I guess.

I thought that was the whole reason behind why he wanted to buy it.  To ensure free speech on that platform.

No, he never wanted to buy Twitter, he wanted the attention and a legal excuse to dump $40B worth of Tesla stock.

I called this the moment he announced he wanted to buy Twitter and he's doing it again. No one is paying attention to him anymore, so back to "I'm going to buy Twitter".

He doesn't care about bots on Twitter, which was his original reason for saying he wants to buy it.

He doesn't care about "free speech" on Twitter either. If he did, he wouldn't have tried to shut down that account that tracks his private plane. He wouldn't have personally cancelled someones Tesla order for saying the car is very good, but the launch event didn't go as planned.

He's just trying to appeal to a certain demographic right now because that demographic has a tendency to buy a specific type of vehicle. The same type of vehicle that is coming out in 2026-27

Twitter is a cesspool, Musk is well...whatever he is. I don't think anyone's winning on this one. I think Musk raised valid concerns over Twitter, but I find his actual behavior dubious for the same reasons @Andrew mentioned.
