AMD Polaris GPUs Can’t Run Forspoken Due To Lack DirectX 12_1 Feature Level Support

Back then, AMD was touted to have the better drivers and DirectX 12 readiness for its GPUs but a few years later, we have the same Polaris GPUs unable to run Forspoken, a title that requires at the very least, DirectX 12_1 feature level support. Unfortunately, AMD's Polaris GPUs don't have DirectX 12_1 feature level support which is a bummer considering NVIDIA's Maxwell GPUs that date back to 2014 (GeForce 900 Series) have that.

Kinda sad knowing AMD was the one offering longer support a few years ago.

AMD Polaris GPUs are unable to run Forspoken on their PCs due to a lack of DirectX 12_1 support while NVIDIA Maxwell GPUs can run just fine.

Polaris, that's RX 400 and 500 right? Yikes. Those are from same era as Pascal.

Given how bad the performance is for this game, I doubt anyone would be playing it on Polaris even if it did support dx12_1.

I just finished some research on it. Seems it's supposed to be Square Enix's in house game engine they came up with. A whole TWO games have actually been made using it, Forspoken and Final Fantasy XV (Stadia)

"The engine powered the tech demos Agni's Philosophy and Witch Chapter 0 initially, and has since been used in two of company's titles—Final Fantasy XV, an entry in their Final Fantasy franchise, and an original IP titled Forspoken. In early 2018, the development team of Final Fantasy XV was established by Square Enix as a new subsidiary studio dubbed Luminous Productions." <---- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminous_Engine

lol, might be a clue why Stadia shut down.....

Not just the stadia version, FF15 period. DF just did a video on this.

It seems to me like Square might have had higher hopes for this game but at some point they realized the gameplay wasn't coming together so they just pushed it out to get rid of it without doing much QA or optimization.

This game is really a great showcase for FSR2 on consoles though, since the resolution has to drop soooo much for it to run.
