According to a report by Moore's Law is Dead, an alleged engineering sample of a dual AMD Zen 5 CPU system has been spotted running a popular benchmark. The system featured a dual-socket system with 64-core Zen 5 EPYC processors, which scored an impressive 123K points in the Cinebench R23 multi-threaded test. In comparison, a dual AMD EPYC 9654 system (capped at 256 threads) achieves around 108K points, about 12% lower than the two Zen 5 chips.

Although AMD's Zen 5 architecture is not expected to debut anytime soon, it seems the company is already hard at...

But can it run...

Wow that is impressive, just goes to show that irrespective of the core counts, the architecture improvements are really leapfrogging. I am looking forward to Zen 5, being the 2nd gen for the DDR5 platform, we should see some additional maturity and performance improvements over Zen 4.

Not that I am in the market for a new PC at all, I was never going to pay the possible early adopters tax this time round with Zen 4, I have done that for so many gens and end up in a worse place for it, sometimes. Not all the time. When time is tight these days, I do not have the time to tweak and play with a system to get it where it should be.

I will still always spec and build my own systems, but the days of early adoption, especially with major platform changes are gone lol.

I'm having the early adopter problems myself and am wondering if I should have kept what I had before (C8H/5900x/B-Die 3733MHz). I had some issues with my 2nd CCD not boosting particularly in low res older 3dmark benchmarks. However, the last BIOS update fixed it. In 3dmark06 I see a locked 5625MHz on my 2nd CCD now. But the system still takes a very long time to POST unfortunately with any memory overclock.

It's not fun being a beta tester for Asus and AMD but I had similar issues when I got a 3900x and C8H in 2019 and they were all eventually fixed. It is wise to wait, but I love my new processor.

Aside from that- I wanted to be ready for Zen 5, so that's why I opted for a Zen 4 setup. I will upgrade to Zen 5 as soon as it comes out, and I'm really hoping they increase the core count on consumer/normal chips this time.
