While the ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 connector-less concept looks interesting, one aspect important to highlight is for running such a GPU, a specifically designed motherboard is required. ASUS also demoed a Z790 TUF Gaming motherboard with all power connectors at the back. The proprietary connector on the motherboard for the GPU was labeled as "GC_HPWR". At BW2023, the company also unveiled a new back-connector motherboard design, the TX Gaming B760-BTF WIFI which has a white and black theme and also features this proprietary slot.

Interesting concept, one of the pro's other than tidiness will be it will help support the rear of the GPU and help with sagging. The downside to this is that it is not going to become a standard offering. So you end up locked in the Asus ecosystem if you want to take advantage of this feature.

I like the idea though to be honest.

Yeah, needs to become a standard for that to be viable in the industry as a solution. I agree it is certainly and interesting one.

(sigh) Soon we'll have the ASUS Strixyingware vs the Dell Alienware in the "Battle of the Proprietary Prebuilts!"

I mean I'd be fine if we moved past ATX as the standard, but whatever replacing it has to be a standard too.

Looks like a smart solution to me.  I do have a question though, I thought those 16pin connectors could NOT be bent too near to the connector.  Isn't that going to be a problem on the backside of a motherboard, where there's usually very little space?

Interesting concept but I wouldn't consider it until it became a standard across all manufactures. Don't want to pay the "Asus tax" just to get stuck with with zero upgrade options if they dump the idea after one generation.

I'm sure ASUS will make a designer case for the designer board that compliments the designer card, maybe even a designer PSU? You know, a whole ROG system.... 🙄

The funny thing is, the problem I mentioned could easily be mitigated by using a 90* angled connector....which does exist I'm sure.  Oh wait, they do....its already on GPU's.

If they put the straight motherboard connectors shown here on the RTX 4090's with the cables pointed downward (or upward would maybe be easier) instead of directly at the side panel, that'd solve the problem on the GPU.  Put the 90* connector on the backside of the mobo, so the cables can be ran parallel with the board (up or down either way, probably downward since most PSU's are down).  Now, neither cable would be bent too near the connector, and no more fire hazards.

But what do I know, I'm not an engineer so obviously I don't know the difference...... 🤔
