Why not, one last run during the winter.

You are aware that winter just started yesterday and you have a few months to run some cards before it ends 🙂

It's usually not worth it for the PPD output to be honest.  But for the friendly competitions, why not? 🙂

Down to the last few hours. I decided to spin up a few extra cards to torment my long-term rival @neurotix. Sorry bud I couldn't help myself 😂

That comes at the cost of the office being a bit warm 🥵 while I'm in here building my rack mount GPU storage shelf. I only have 20 of these risers currently but the rails are 3' deep so I can squeeze 3 or 4 shelves worth in here.

Quick check of the inventory spreadsheet shows 35 GPUs in the house... And that's assuming I haven't missed any 😂

If only the majority of them weren't old stuff for HWBOT comps. I'd love to have some more RTX 4XXX cards for folding

That's a wrap!  Fun 3-day event.  I installed Debian 12 to two unused boxes just to test them for future use and used it start writing my "Linux for beginners" how-to guide for BOINC and Folding@home.  Thanks for the event!

(The Xeon 1230v3 (Haswell) 4c/8t with Intel stock cooler, Supermicro motherboard, Rosewill 4U chassis was going to be my 2013 FreeNAS build, but ZFS intimidated me so I put it on hold.  With Folding, it heated up to 100C within seconds so I had to stop.  I reapplied new thermal paste (Noctua NT-H2 and replaced the 2013 Arctic Silver 5?) and got the same results, so I think the stock Intel CPU fan just sucks.

The Dell OptiPlex with 4c/4t i5 Ivy Bridge worked great, and it's heating up the basement to keep the water pipes from freezing.  I'll run it a couple months until I can sell it.

Can't wait to start GPU folding.  I've been Folding for about 20 years (low User ID) and got to top 15,000 or so back when everyone was CPU folding.  Had to install the client in 2 Windows folders for dual core CPUs since the client didn't support multi-core or multi-thread back then.

Leaning towards getting a PNY RTX A2000 6 GB from Amazon since it's a 75 Watt slot-powered slim GPU.  It'll fit in my Dell OptiPlex 3050 with i5 4c/4t Kaby Lake.

Someday I'll have a sick 42U server cabinet with 4U servers with 4 flagship GPUs sucking down 1200 Watts.  Someday.

Ah yes, I see that this forum is a bunch of enablers.  High Wife Approval Factor lmaooo.  At least it's not meth or something.  There's worse addictions and hobbies.

"Honey!  It's for cancer and Alzheimer's and other horrible diseases.  Do you want those things?"

(I'm not married.  I'm just mentally preparing.)
