Tech giant Google's legal troubles are starting to mount, with 2023 coming to a close as it lost a lawsuit filed against it by Epic Games for monopolizing the Android application ecosystem. Google's Google Play is the dominant application for downloading software on Android gadgets. Epic's lawsuit claimed that the firm illegally monopolized not only the Android app ecosystem but also payment methods on the software platform. In response, Google claimed that it is competing with Apple for users and has been forced to reduce its prices to prevent customer churn - behavior that goes against a monopoly, according to the software company.

Guess Apple will be next. Kinda deserved, but atleast will keep the "you signed the dotted line" from talking above their pay grade.

Yea and with Epic Game we should get ways more game released on mobile!

Kinda remind me of the fire tablet that are somewhat locked to the amazon app store.

They already went after Apple, and lost. I know they've escalated to the Supreme Court in the US but not sure how all of that will pan out.

Curious what the net results will be for developers here. Thanks for sharing the story OP 🙂

Apple makes their own hardware and OS, and they've never claimed it to be an open system. Android is an open system similar to Windows. Google can't both claim Android is an open system AND take huge anti-competitive steps to keep others from using it that way.

Another difference from Apple; Google pays Apple to make Google the default search on Apple devices. Apple isn't paying anyone to make Apple the default for anything.
