NVIDIA Founders Edition cards for some of the latest GPUs have been sent out to reviewers. The RTX 4070 SUPER and 4080 SUPER are among these models set to receive this reference edition. In terms of pricing, the RTX 4080 SUPER is slated to be priced at $999, which is $200 less than the launch price of the non-SUPER version, RTX 4080. NVIDIA appears to be confirming earlier speculations that the RTX 4080S and 4070TiS will replace the current models in their product lineup. The updated chart no longer includes references to these specific SKUs. The RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is set to take the place of the RTX 4070 Ti non-SUPER at a price point of $799. Simultaneously, the RTX 4070 SUPER is expected to be priced at $599 in retail, while the existing non-SUPER model is officially confirmed to have a revised MSRP of $599.

Anyone with the current 4000 series lineup (non-super) might as well hold on to what they have and wait for the 5000 or 6000 series to drop. Anyone with a 3090 should also keep hold of it until the 5000 series. I don't thing the Super series has shaken anything up but to be fair this should not be a surprise. Afterall the super series is only a refresh.

I think the main thing is the new 4070ti super 16gb is on par almost with the old 4080. And the new 4080 is now officially a 7900xtx killer. If price are right.

I may get one of those since am out of gpu.

But waiting for next release would be the smart move for sure.

I was just going to say the 4080S looks like it could be a really good budget high end contender with its $999 MSRP.  The regular 4080 is currently $1200+ on newegg.  Obviously it probably won't actually release at MSRP, but we can hope.  It'll be a cut in current 4080 pricing anyway, actually makes the 4080S an attractive option over the old 4080 to be honest.  Especially when you consider the 4090 tax of like $2200+ on those.

...in case someone wants to or needs to get a new 4080 now, I would recommend the 4080 Super or even 4070 Ti Super instead, otherwise, just wait for Blackwell (RTX "5k"). I am sure glad I picked up my custom PCB 4090 (600W) back in the fall of '22 at the intro price - it is more expensive now as the big AD 102 chips are also in heavy demand for AI cards for the workstation and enterprise markets. NVidia is selling a boat load of those at a much higher margins.

Exactly what am thinking. Can't decide tho. Ark ascended on 4k is like 40fps with dlss and frame gen on a 4080. 😅

The 4080 being $1200 was always outrageous. I still hate the $999 price, but given the new 4080 Super should reliably beat a 7900XTX with the increase in cores (albeit marginal), Nvidia doesn't have an incentive to lower it anymore than $999 because of AMD's pricing of the 7900 XTX.

So color me annoyed. Feel like both companies are in cahoots to just raise prices. Now instead of the 4080 being $500 overpriced, the 4080 Super is now just $300 overpriced. We know this because of the existence of the 4070 Ti Super also using the AD103 at a slight cutdown from the 4080, but with the same bus/memory capacity and its $799. Yeah...the 4080/4080 Super should be that tier.

EDIT: I do wonder if AMD will drop the 7900 XTX to $899 now and make the 7900 XT at $749 or maybe even $699 official.

As it is right now, the 7900XT is typically faster than everything Nvidia has aside from the 4080 and 4090 in normal games and RT games but falls short on PT. I am guessing the 4070Ti Super will slot between the 7900XT and 7900XTX.

No doubt AMD will respond with price cuts, and I think we might get to see some much needed competition on prices. If the 4070Ti Super sells anywhere near MSRP, AMD prices will need to come down a lot. Right now the 7900XTX is going for just under $1000, that's going to have to come down to ~$750 to compete with the 4070Ti Super.

I think AMD could also add some cards to their stack. I doubt they will release anything higher end than a 7900XTX, but they just announced the 7600XTX, they could do a 7700XTX and more importantly a 7800XTX. There is a wide gap in terms of both price and performance between the 7800XT and 7900XT. A 7800XTX would fill a huge gap from AMD and put that much more pressure on Nvidia.

I don't think AMD has much headroom to go above a 7900XTX due to power consumption, but if they could squeeze in a 7950XT/XTX and sell that for $900 and drop the 7900XTX to $800 or less, that would be pretty sweet.

Well, nice to see Nvidia offer a better 4080 at a lower price.

$1,000 doesn’t make me want to sell my 7900 XTX and swap but… if an RTX 4080 was this price in 2022, I’m fairly certain I would of made that choice over AMD. Similarly with the oddly named 4070 Ti Super. $799 pits square against the 7900 XT.

At least they adjusted their pricing stack, even if we all agree it’s still too expensive. Small steps are better than no steps.

AMD will most certainly respond with price cuts.

Blackwell (high end) will likely release at the end of the year but if you need a card now and you have a decent budget, the supers look pretty decent.

...the fellow who made this YT vid has been posting at the 4090 thread 'at another forum'...read the YT description first. He and others combine a 4090 with an AMD model (here with 6900XT). Very tempting; it just so happens that I have a 4090 and 6900XT in the same case  just not connected to the same mobo...RTX 5K rumoured to be out either very late '24 or early '25, but with NVidia, one never knows for sure.

Do they even have room for a card between the 7800 XT and the 7900 XT? If I understand correctly, the 7800 XT is already the full Navi 32 GCD. I suppose they could further cut down Navi 31.

That's more aggressive price cutting than I was thinking they'd do, but that would probably be pretty good for them and they'd retain the good sales they currently have. I imagine they have plenty of margin to work with considering the MCM design and the relatively smaller die sizes as a result. At those prices they would still be a compelling offer in light of the Supers for the more VRAM and strong raster.

No idea on the specifics of their dies, I just know there is a huge gap between the 7800XT and 7900XT.

Took a look at TPU. 7900 XTX is full Navi 31, 7900 XT is cut-down Navi 31. 7800 XT is full Navi 32, the next die down. There is a 7900 GRE that is a further cut-down of Navi 31 from what the 7900 XT is. That seems to suggest that there could be room for a 7800 XTX or whatever based on Navi 31, but I guess that would also depend on yields. If their yields are too good they might not want to release another cut-down Navi 31 product if the 7900 XT and 7900 XTX are sufficiently selling supply of said dies and their yields are too good to justify a further cut-down SKU. With the 7800 XT being full Navi 32, there is no room with that die for a higher SKU.

That said I definitely agree there is plenty of gap between the two products to support something in between. I just don't think they'll do it.

Credit where credit is due though. At least they didn't sandbag on cards with full dies like Nvidia tends to do.

Very tempting; it just so happens that I have a 4090 and 6900XT in the same case  just not connected to the same mobo...RTX 5K rumoured to be out either very late '24 or early '25, but with NVidia, one never knows for sure.

I've also seen GPU combo vids  for MSFS 2020 and a few other titles..

I don't recall who actually did this first, I want to say it was somebody in China.  @LabRat has been following that stuff pretty closely, maybe he knows?  Labrat's been running a 16GB Vega64 (actually a Radeon MI25 pro card) to render, and letting a 6500XT handle the AFMF.  It actually works pretty well!

I see absolutely no reason, especially with Windows 11, why you COULDN'T run two different GPU's in your system for the different feature sets.  You can get DLSS to run on AMD by having an Nvidia card, and you can get AFMF to run on Nvidia by having an AMD card if I'm not mistaken.

I run a MI25/WX9100(Vega 10 16GB) + RX 6500XT (Navi 24 XT), and thanks to AFMF (off my 6500XT), I can play modern titles like Avatar smoothly.
AFMF 'works on' old AMD cards too, if you pair it with a AFMF-supported card.

Of note: The 6900XT here, is total overkill; even an RX 6400 would be sufficient for AFMF off the 4090's rendering.
Basically, the rendering card is merely passing output framedata over PCI-E to the AFMF-supporting card. Which, uses very 'low cost' processing to generate the additional frames.

The 4090 is doing 100% of the heavy lifting.

The 6900XT sitting in the case would be a 'waste', if you're purpose-building a GeForce(RTX+DLSS) + Radeon(AFMF) build.

I'm not sure there's a single circumstance/application where a 6900XT beats a 4090, even well-outside of 'gaming'. So... "Why?"

Not to mention, you don't even need to put the AFMF card in an x16 slot.
A lot of new low-end AMD cards are x4 or x8 lanes. (Navi 24 cards, are all Gen4x4) So, a Gen4x1 slot is a (acceptable-preferable) option. Even an open M.2 slot may be easily adapted to support a low-power AFMF card.
One really just needs enough PCI-E bandwidth for the frames being pushed across the PCIe bus.
(Ex. My AFMF and 'display output' 6500XT, is across my X570 chipset's Gen4x4, while the MI25/WX9100 is 3.0x16 on the CPU-connected slot.)

The most-entry level AFMF-supporting Radeon (6400) should be more than capable of doing the frame generation
since, it's not doing any actual rasterization work.

...I was kind of kidding; besides I already have a RTX 4090 and a nearby 6900XT per spoiler in my earlier post, but no other current-gen AMD. The 4090 and 6900XT are in a dual-mobo/dual system setup, the 4090 paired with a 7950X3D and the 6900XT with a 5950X (work-play/play-work)

Give the combo a try next time you have them taken apart.  It absolutely works!

Do you NEED AFMF with a 4090?  Nahhh, probably not.  But its actually pretty freaking cool that it actually works.  I'll bet you can go the other way with it too, and introduce Nvidia features to an AMD card.  For the fun of it, of course. 🙂

I figured.
But, I wanted it to be known that AFMF does *not* require a high-end card. I'd yet to see anyone demo or even mention that fact.
('Only seen folks with high-end kit just laying around try out AFMF in combo w/ another card. lol)

The concept is much more budget-friendly (and retro-friendly*) than it seems.

*AFMF will work on just about any DX11 and DX12 title. The rendering card doesn't have to be "modern" either. Someone with a RTX 2080S, 2080 Ti, Titan RTX, or Radeon VII, 5700XT, etc. can still enjoy their hardware.
As time goes on, the RX 6400s-6500s, RX 7600s, etc. will drop in price, and become more common 2nd hand; making 'adding AFMF' potentially affordable.

...yeah, could be fun...I don't even need to take them apart; both GPUs are vertically mounted (pic below) on risers, and the tubing has enough slack curled on the back of the system - it will reach. FYI, I planted my 3090 Strix into the same Win 10 system that has SLI 2080 Tis running in CFR (TR2950X X399 creation)...for some ML tasks, all of them chip in but with a simple 'display preference' change I can switch between them.

The only drawback will be that both cards will shift to PCIe 4 /8 but still worth it as a fun project that doesn't cost extra $s, just time

Oh that's YOUR system?  Nice!  I thought that was from the "other forum thread" you were talking about earlier, my bad on comprehension. 🙂

Yeah, that would be a pretty easy swap lol.

AFMF could be quite a boon for someone with a RTX 3080-3090 who wants to wait for, say, NVidia Blackwell RTX 5K but has the budget to go for a 'decent but value-priced' 7900XTX now, or a @LabRat pointed out , even  has an older AMD GPU. I just don't know about how AFMF works re. VRAM capacities - hopefully I 'learn AFMF by doing' soon 😬
