RX 580 2048sp 8GB & 16GB BIOS MODDING

Recommended Posts

Well, I thought I'd post this in case anyone wants help modding their Polaris BIOS but also I had a question about these cards. Why does the core voltage not go above 1.031v, even know its set to 1150-1200mv in the BIOS?

Thanks

*UPDATE*

Just need to specify the voltage in the 65288 position, duh!

The voltage section of Polaris BIOS editor doesn't really work on most cards, just as a heads up.  Polaris generally responds well to an increase in the TDP section.  In other words, giving it a positive power limit like setting the slider to +50% in MSI Afterburner.

I have a pair of Asus 8GB cards that are BIOS flashed to 1400c / 2050m and they run rock solid there.  And then I have a cranky MSI 8GB card that I always seem to brick it with a bad BIOS flash.  🤣

Here are the running results, it would appear to be using too much voltage & throttling so we will reduce voltage & clock to reduce throttling.

You shouldn't need more vcore to get 1400 core clock on a 580, and 2000 on the RAM is stock clocks.

1.20v and a 200w power limit is like 1450-1500 core clock speeds range.  Assuming your card can clock that high.

Both of my Asus RX 580's will do 1450c / 2050m clocks at 1.20v with a 200w modded BIOS.  They're not happy there, but they'll bench there.  My MSI version of the card will actually run stable at those clocks though.  Depends on your cooling capabilities with the card honestly.  Keep it cooler, it'll clock higher.

Thanks man yeah my msi reference 480 has an asic quality of 68% so it needs 1.050v just for 1250mhz core minimum & its 8 hours stable @ 5k ultra call of duty wwii.

These chinese rx 580 2040sp models have strong asic quality of 80%+ so im sure they can clock well.  This guy though couldn't get 1400 stable at 1.2v, needed to back it off to 1355 for stability long term at 1.2v.  Since then he stopped talking to me so idk how well it's running.

I'd love to get my hands on a $100 16GB rx 580 2048sp from Aliexpress China bro with that excellent asic quality they would be fun cards to own especially with 16GB to play around with for a while until I get a stronger card.

16GB RX 580's?!?!?

Stahp it bro.  🤣  I'm so sick and tired of RX 580's, I've had I want to say 24 of them to date.  I really REALLY don't want to think about RX 580's anymore.  But 16GB 580's???????????  You've piqued my interest. -_-

🤣Yeah I've owned a bunch of Polaris cards, the best of which were 2 8GB 480s I got for $149 each back in the day from Visiontek & they would clock stable all day on stock voltage 1.175v @ 1407Mhz core which was amazing when I was hooked on modding my R9 390X at the time which I miss dearly, the 390X was a fun card but far too hot.

I want the Kinology version because its important to take note of the direction of the heatsink fins.  You want them to exhaust into the case as it allows for more airflow off the card, rather than a front & back exhaust style heatsink especially when they add a DVI port it cuts airflow too much runs too hot.

These Kinology cards just needs a good BIOS modding, and replace the thermal paste, and possibly pads, and replace the fans with say 2x Delta 92mm x 25 @ 80CFM for 160CFM total would keep it cool under load just need to use the fan vga to pwm adapters they sell and were golden.

Kinology AMD RX 580 16GB 2048SP Gaming Graphics Card GDDR5 256Bit PCI Express 3.0 ×16 Radeon GPU RX580 Series placa de video - AliExpress

Oh I'm now starting to see the difference.  Those aliexpress 580's only have 2048SP vs the standard 580's 2304SP's.  Got it.  So its a weaker RX 580, but with more VRAM.  Interesting.  It's basically a RX 570 with slightly higher stock clocks.  Very interesting.  Guess they have to do something with all the leftover Polaris dies.
