Steam Summer Sale, what did you buy?

Recommended Posts

I like to wait for games to go on sale, my only problem is playing them after I buy them and I've forgotten the hype.

What did you  buy this summer?

For me, a lot of controller based games.

Days Gone

Dead Cells

Deep Rock Galactic (Keyboard/Mouse)

Mark of the Ninja: Remastered

Nolta

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Spelunky 2

theHunter:Call of the Wild

Total War: Shogun

Valheim

I've decided I'm going to try and put 2 hours into each game before the return period has ended.  I still have 4 games from last year I never played.

I am absolutely amazed by Spelunky 2.  I grew up in the Mario era, and this game can be brutal.  I love that the game never becomes easier, it's not about grinding for stats, it's about skill.

I'm also looking forward to Days Gone.  I haven't played a lot of Playstation games, but this one makes me wish I had.  2.1 hours, non-refundable and I don't want to.

What are your recommendations?

Keeping up the tradition and adding more to the backlog. Some are short games.

- Machinarium has been on my wishlist for nearly 10 years. Love the soundtrack.

- Dusk is a metal / boomer shooter recommended by a friend. Seems like a fun romp.

- Love the Amnesia series and ready for WW1 trench psychological horror

- Last but not least, pre-ordered Frostpunk 2. Started playing Frostpunk a few nights ago and loving it. If you’re into strategy games, it’s definitely worth a try and only about $3 USD right now.

I posted these in “last purchase thread”. My playtime has gone down for the summer and I don’t anticipate to play these games anytime soon. In fact, I’m catching up on my 2022 Black Friday purchases right now (Frostpunk). I always group my purchases on Steam whenever I buy a few games in a sale. Helps me manage the backlog and my wallet 🙂

An easy pick up and play game with a controller that you may like if you’re into Spelunky is Rogue Legacy 2. I think they came out around the same

time, different but similar type of gameplay (traveling deeper and deeper) but it’s one of those games that can get addictive quickly. Mark of the Ninja is good. I played that when it released, and while I never went back to it, it was throughly enjoyable. Check out Katana Zero. Much more memorable in my opinion, and it’s length is perfect (4-6hrs).

Another game I haven’t played in years… Halo Wars. It’s the first console strategy game from Ensemble Studios that really embraced a controller. I’ve only played it on 360 but would recommend if you looking for a strategy game with a gamepad. Never tried Shogun (1) but Shogun 2 is my favourite Total War title if you’re looking for a time sink, M/KB is a must.

I was tempted to grab Remnant II but I decided to remove it from the cart at the last moment. Until I can find someone to commit playing co-op with… I can’t handle that commitment right now.

Anybody see any good co-op capable (even with mods) games, please let me know and post it here. 🙂

So far, I haven't seen much on the Steam sale that's of any interest to me yet.

Co-op in a traditional sense (progressing through missions, levels, and/or plot) or are you open to player vs. environment (PvE) games?

If PvE scratches your fancy, the options open up. Traditional co-op, especially couch / split-screen are few and far between.

What titles did you like, dislike?

I really don't need more games in my backlog that I'll never play. I did get a couple DLC for Assetto to guilt myself into actually using my racing sim 😂

Stardew Valley deserves it's praise.  I didn't get the hype but I basically just farm, I don't really do anything that I'm supposed to and it's just relaxing.  I said the same thing before I picked it up.  Just don't be like me and name your chickens with Egg at the beginning of their name as a requirement...  Eggbert, Eggdizzle, Eggolas, etc.  you start to run out of ideas fast.

The only thing I bought was lossless scaling, and it wasn't on sale.  In fact I think this is the first steam sale in history where I haven't bought something...
