Overclocking/Benching Competition Focus Group

Hello all, 

 

We are looking to setup a frequent/semi frequent Overclocking/Benchmarking event. We have some ideas in the pot, but we would like to put together a focus group of Overclockers/Benchmarkers to hash out the competition framework as well as possibly a couple of enthusiastic members to oversee the overall running of the event. This is an excellent opportunity for us to develop and grow an event from the ground up. 

 

At first, this will be a small competition but we hope to grow this into an event whereby we can garner outside vendor partnerships to sponsor the event. This could be an excellent opportunity for us to do something that not many forums are doing, or at least doing anymore and stand out from the crowd. We would love for such an event to bring overclockers and enthusiasts together from all round.

 

If you would like to be a part of the focus group, please register your interest via a post in this thread. 

 

Feel free to also make other comments in this thread regarding any ideas and thoughts.

Maybe have it in separate cooling categories? e.g. air,liquid,extreme? Otherwise all your winners are likely to be in the sections who have the materials for LN2 ect.

Good point maybe we could just not allow LN2 / Dry ice / cold room since those are mostly for hwbot anyways.

Banning cooling types for an overclocking effort doesn't make much sense. I think having different categories by cooling types is a feasible workaround.

I can't manage and run this or anything, Bastiaan and server075 should being the HWBOT team captains.

 

I remember doing some competitions on OCN, they were seasonal. Like 4 times a year. I participated in one called "Freezer Burn" back in 2020 or so, there were prizes like packets of Kingpin KPX and they had 15, along with a memory kit and something else. Well, I did pretty well in it in all 5 stages BUT received no prize. They had like 15 packs of KPX and barely 15 people participated, yet I never got a prize Still salty about that.

To avoid cooling restrictions, limit frequency. Have an CBR20 comp at warp9-systems running where I restricted frequency of cpu to 6ghz. Use whatever cooling you want.

 

Aaaand you guys are welcome to come over and make a submission. It's just a simple competition which Intel and AMD are divided. No prizes or anything, just a fun comp.

Almost everyone here started on another team (mostly old ocn). I'd really like to get @Bones on our team as well.

Oof, Bones been on the team longer than me! He's been with Mr.scott during the Forum Wars days. You know, before HWBot became a thing. 

 

And speaking of Forum Wars, perhaps this could be a thing to be started back up again. Might gain traction after a while, get some over the pond teams to join possibly. 

 

However many forums I used to frequent are gone or dead as a door nail.

Your Team vs My Team in a Forum war competition. If this sounds appealing to you guys, we could definitely cook something tasty!! Even if it takes a couple of months planning, aiming for after TC is cool. 

 

It would be a first of it's kind in nearly 20 years.

The offer is appreciated but as Shrimpy said, I've been with the same core group of guys for close to 20 years now (2006) and I have no plans on that changing.
However tossing some ideas around isn't a bad thing, that I could do at least.

I'll keep an eye on this thread and if I have something to contribute I will.

Forum War sounds like fun. A frequency limit would push the fight on Efficency. So i would participate.
