Moore's Law is Dead is well known for accurate leaks.  He's very connected in the industry.   The video is long, but is indexed for easy topic browsing.  He speculates that Intel is in even more trouble.  Their next major milestone isn't working out.  AMD is posed to reap the rewards.

Who knows. If I had to guess, it will be more than a year. Seems like some of the issues run deep.

 

Before Ryzen back when AMD was well behind, it felt like Intel was iterating more than innovating just because there was no real competition. Back then, I would have thought Intel had some tricks up it's sleeve it hadn't used yet that they could play if/when AMD caught up, but they didn't really have anything special. Imagine how screwed Intel might be now if AMD hadn't been so far behind for so long. 

 

I think we all expected more from their attempt at GPUs by now as well. It's been years and they have essentially nothing serious to show for it. 

 

Doesn't feel like a particularly healthy company right now, and it doesn't seem like there are any quick solutions to their issues. Seems like they have a lot of pain ahead. 

 

I'm certainly no expert on any of this tho. Just my two cents.

There are a number of similarities in a rotten company culture not focused on product and engineering between Boeing and Intel. It's just that Intel's missteps don't come with a death toll and they haven't undergone a serious divestment of their business units yet.

 

Their hubris led them to litigate and market their way to the top, but they don't know how to act when they get punched in the face.

Intel's too big for their own good and as you say have a horrendous reputation for company culture.

 

AMD: ~26,000 employees

Intel: ~130,000 employees

 

Now for the kicker...

 

AMD: $22.7B total revenue for 2023

Intel: $54.22B total revenue for 2023

 

Intel needs to be doing way more than double AMd's revenue for having 5X as many employees.

Rumor has it Intel is getting hit with a class action lawsuit from share holders.  The claim is that they lied and misled share holders about their production capabilities.

 

I think sueing a company they own doesn't make sense, so I'm guessing most clients who signed on to the lawsuit have sold their shares.
