M105 / M205 are the go-to compound/polish for good value for money. Otherwise CarPro has some great products, but they are more pricey. For a DA polisher Griot's make some great stuff for a decent price.

M105 and M205 is exactly what I have, but right now just using a cheap DA I got at Harbor Freight. I might upgrade one day, but its good enough for my use as a casual for now.

Current state of affairs on the STi.

shortblocks.thumb.png.100655b69d6b6fae594e45e0ebf2ea4c.png

The mess on the old block was from a power steering pump leak, that started about a year ago, that I never fixed.

Did both my oil change and did a slightly overdue transmission fluid drain and fill today. Managed to get 4 quarts drained from the transmission. Happened to buy 4 quarts since I usually get around 3.5-3.7 quarts drained, so good thing it didn't drain more than that lol.

...I leave my car to build up a protective layer of dirt...especially useful as we're nearing the winter, besides, it looks like one of those new 'flat' wraps. Also, we finally got some colder temps and rain, and I took the long way home from the store - looks like some folks went straight to Christmas decoration this weekend, while others are still doing the Halloween thing.

not sure why it says 8/29 because the CEL didn't come up until today. I cleared it and went on a ~10 mile drive and it didn't pop back up, hoping it was just a car fart.

supposedly it's covered under dieselgate but internet wisdom says that getting VW to honor it is a PITA though

I took the sensor out and cleaned it and was good for a couple weeks but it came back today.

VW replaced the sensor and module for free and gave me a loaner GLI for a couple hours  :wheee:

Well washed the car and was going to put a sealant on when I got home, but then the wind kicked up something fierce and it got very dusty again, so decided well will take it sometime this week to rinse off again and do this properly.

Then a bird decided to disrespect my hood today. Sigh. Had to get that off quick.

P244 instead of P2201 this time. still DPF related but they can't squeeze me in until Monday image.gif.56e36c950580d488851d898c6c375743.gif😞

trying to do some mental gymnastics to justify doing a DPF delete + tune rather than getting it fixed for free under the extended emission warranty ¯\(ツ)

...no joke, no embellishment  ...back in the day, I put up a 'run'  from Vancouver to Whistler in a modded C4 'Vette at 48 min flat at just past 5 am...in those days, I worked for the feds as an economist, and I knew from a buddy who worked for the RCMP computer department that between 4.30 am and 5.30 am, the RCMP shift change was happening, and they were all at the Tim Hortons in Squamish...

Haha yea. It like montreal. They have like 4 highways patrol max. Not supposed to know this 😂.

I have very fond memories of Old Montreal during reading breaks at university...there was than one issue though of police pursuit, but all is well that ended well... 😬

...I was cleaning out some boxes in my home-office and found these old print photographs (sorry for the pic quality...). It's from a trip from Vancouver to SanFran with my GF back in the day when I had finished rebuilding this used, abused & auto-crossed Z51/52 '95 Vette the dealer was selling for real cheap as it didn't make it through emissions (headers, no cats, dual 3 inch pipes, Flowmasters, modded port fuel injection etc ...). After rebuilding and modding it, I managed to sneak it through certification and then we took that trip down the Pacific Coast Highway...

...well, those were different days. That said, the used 'Vette was less than half of what a new Honda Civic was selling for ...it  would have cost the dealer way too much to bring back to regulations conformity (using their own service department prices). There were other methods one could take (and I did so) to make it (mostly) legal. Best of all, I drove for about eight years and sold it for a good chunk more than I originally paid for it.

...with the electric vehicle gen upon us, we might be able to use just a few of our computer modding tricks to 'make it our own'...😉
