Finally got it dyno tuned! Considering the mods (or lack thereof) it put out a respectable 215whp and 155wlb-ft (160wkw and 210wnm). Which should be around 245-250hp / 178lb-ft (185kw / 242nm) to the crank given 15% losses.

It cost my CAD$650 for a full tune including tax. That's around $500 USD.

The guy tuning it was very nice, gave me the run down of what he was doing, things that I would need to change in the future as well as gave me the file so I can change it in the future by myself.

  • 4 weeks later...

Took my S2000 out to some nice back roads (well for what Ontario can offer). Had some slippery and slidey moments but got to feel the car nicely (even if the front all seasons and rear mediocre tyres limited me) also got a few nice pictures:

Did autocross last weekend in one of the parking lots on campus, set up by the sports car club. Mediocre course but it was fun nonetheless, first time doing so in the Alltrack as well. Four runs total, beat my original goal, set a new one, then beat that too. Lots of cool cars out there as well, including a '66 Mustang "parts car" with pushrod rear suspension. Other noteworthy cars included a bagged Honda Ridgeline and a Jeep Trackhawk with roughly 840 HP to the wheels. I was the only wagon though.

I just have two really crap videos of my last two runs. First one (run 3/4) was taken by someone else and they sent the video over Slack, which butchered the quality. I'm asking him to send it differently so it looks decent. Second one (4/4) is just raw dashcam footage with the wrong date and delayed audio because I'm lazy and that's all I had hard mounted.

Also a video I took of the roads out in Muskoka, they were horribly bumpy, uneven and rough as well as it being 0c with really bad tyres (I suspect they were too low PSI too) made it rather sketchy and I just didn't push the car at all. The footage is from my dashcam, hence the beeps each time it thinks we had an accident (the bumps were that bad).

Also at 1:57 you can hear the car bottom out. And at 3:20 you can hear the clutch delay valve, 22lb flywheel and the clutch starting to die cause an effect on shifting:

Well, here's my project that's in progress.
64 Falcon Sprint Convertible with the 260 V8, 2-speed auto trans (Ford-O-Matic).

589560310_Frontexterior.thumb.jpg.bf1905bb1816f0701d297608117bd037.jpg

1437188574_Rearexterior.thumb.JPG.e0c5ca01138e6e433d828f14cb58a6e4.JPG

Interior.thumb.JPG.d997a35e14763fbe847745e01a1e25c2.JPG

She's rough but more than worth fixing back up. Not too many of these were made in 64 (4278 total) and as an FYI, the 65's are extremely rare if you ever see or even find one, only 300 Convertible Sprints were ever made in that year.

This particular one is a rarity in itself for two reasons.
One is the vast majority of Sprints came with the more sporty options like bucket seats and factory floor shifter, this one is an originally equipped column shift and came with the 50/50 bench seat too, only 626 Sprints were outfitted with the bench seat.

The other thing is it's what's called a "Triple Black" car meaning the paint, interior and top were all black from the factory - One source says only 50 like that were ever made out of all Sprints period, not just for the 64 year model itself.
Will have to dig really deep to comfirm that as for all period or for the year model run but since this one was originally optioned both ways it's definitely an odd bird.

The Warranty VIN, matches the VIN numbers under the hood so I know it's a 100% genuine Sprint and the dataplate shows all these options as being what it came with confirming all the above.

And yes, the original engine is still there and even after sitting wherever it had been all these years it still runs fairly good too.
Engine test run

Work is proceeding slowly (Like frozen molasses) but it's getting there.

My Father-in-Law and I picked up this 2008 Ford Focus SES for $1,000. It actually has 251,000 miles and somehow the transmission still feels solid. 3 of 4 plugs were full of oil, 1 coil pack was arking at the top because the boot was stretched, the plastic heater core hose sprung a leak driving it home, but the plan is to fix it up and give it to a new single Mother in need.

So far, I've replaced the valve cover gaskets, plugs, cleaned all of the wheel speed sensors, added the missing rear abs tone rings, coil packs, heater hose (aluminum this time), sway bar link, oil/filter, coolant, scrubbed it inside and out, and restored the headlights. I've been driving it around to see if it will break, but somehow it's pretty solid. All codes cleared and staying off.

What's left to do is the front bumper, passenger splash guard, passenger fog light, fix an exhaust leak, and hardcore paint correction.

At least the Science of Speed car cover is really nice.

...back in the day, I had an old, used Trans Am (T/A 6.6 WS6) I drove through the winter / snow belt between Orillia and Trent University in Peterborough. Fortunately, it had a positrac diff and semi-decent radial tires, but winter driving was still a hoot.

Back then, they didn't really use salt brine but sand / gravel and regular salt...every spring time, after university but before the start of the summer job, I would have to do my own bodywork around the rocker panels and fender lips re. the 'sand blasting + salt'.  I also remember minus 25 C morning start-ups - watching the oil pressure gauge indicating 'thick molasses' during long warm-ups.

Nowadays, the X5 and its xDrive + 'puters takes care of things to the point that it is less fun (but safer). Unfortunately, in our region of BC, they almost exclusively use salt brine and that stuff gets into nooks and crannies and pretty much everything else, including brake calipers etc.

That's weird, I thought BC doesn't get nearly as cold. Guess it's the same as here where they apply salt even if the weather report says 1% chance of snow for 1 second during 1 of the days of the month when it should really only be used to prevent black ice / ice.

So I did a thing today to my Jeepish thing.  Wired up my light bar! :wheee:

No, I'm not "that" jerk.....I don't drive on the streets with it on.  Lots of rural areas around here though where its safe to use it.  Did try it out on a road tonight (no traffic), and WOW what a difference it makes.

Yes, I have replacement fog bulbs coming.  Those were cheap Alla "amber" LED's that didn't last a year.  Trying switchback bulbs this time, hoping for $50 they last a little longer.  Really needing more of an amber color.  Kinda need that more out of the light bar too, but whatever.  I'll address that with the bumper later.

I'm really glad my stock lights are really good, no need to worry or fuss about going aftermarket anything. My CL9 Accord lights absolutely sucked and it wasn't fun at all.

Seconding this. MK7 Golf lights, or at least the facelift ones, are absurdly bright.

That's weird, I thought BC doesn't get nearly as cold. Guess it's the same as here where they apply salt even if the weather report says 1% chance of snow for 1 second during 1 of the days of the month when it should really only be used to prevent black ice / ice.

...parts of BC can get really cold, while the 'Lower Mainland' stays a bit warmer, but still can be a fair amount of snow, never mind trips to Whistler etc...in fact, this being a confirmed la nina year, I better get some new snow tires. Past winter driving near our place...

Rotated the tires today, and installed the new fog light bulbs.  WOW what a difference a good bulb makes, holy wow.  These new fog lights are no joke, they're just as good or better than my low beams!

Just the amber fogs:

Welcome to the club, I blind people all the time with my light bar on back roads at 5 am. They do make a huge difference and I have been able to avoid many bear/deer/turkey on the mountain pass because of it.

As someone with a relatively low car that makes me sad. I mean you probably don't leave it on all the time but it is annoying how many lights cut-off zones are way above my car.

Speaking of my car, although it's in storage. Still getting parts for it, should have a Recaro Pole Position seat and a new clutch soon.

I really only use it on the mountain roads when it's pitch black, 9/10 i'm able to kill the bar before anyone gets in range to be blinded. Still, I wouldn't want to not have it.

As someone who had a lowered car previously (and probably will again one day), I understand and sympathize with your frustrations.  Let me explain. 🙂

My light bar is for "off road use only".  However, I do have a LOT of country roads here, and yes....I DO use it every once in a while when its needed.  In town driving, its off 100% of the time.  Busy roads, off.  Empty country roads with just me driving on it.......who cares?  Just the other day, I avoided hitting a coyote because the light bar was on and I saw it.  My headlights only, I would not have seen it at all and I'd have smooshed it because it came from the side of the road and crossed right in front of me right as I was getting close to it going "50mph".

The fog lights probably would bother you, and yes those ARE used daily.  I can understand that complaint since those are actually used.  Honestly, not my problem when I see lowered Hondas with retina burning blue HID's in their reflector housings everyday.  They're pointed below my low beams, they're just extra wide so I can see the sides of the road.  That'd be the worst offense you'd see coming at me head on would be my fog lights.  However adding LED's so I can have amber color for the weather was all I did to those.  (Find me a pair of good halogen amber PSW24X bulbs and we'll talk about swapping).

My headlights are stock halogens.  Other than bulbs, the fogs are stock (stock color and pointing though).  The lightbar as far as any other drivers are concerned is off road only.

I know, it LOOKS very offensive on your eyes with everything on.  But I promise, its not THAT blinding coming at me head on.  There's a Jeep rolling around here with 6000k HID's in his 8" round reflector housings, he's got 6000k colored lights all over the front, and he drives regularly with all of that nonsense on WITH his lightbar.  I promise you, I'm not THAT guy.  I do try to take other drivers into consideration. 🙂
