Yea, I was looking at those but unfortunately they don't offer anywhere near my requirements in size.  I'm running the smallest setup the car comes with from the factory (225/55 /17).  Downside is having to feather the pedal as needed.. but when it grips the combo of the sidewall flex and lighter tire/rims makes for some pretty nasty launches considering it's rwd with an open diff.  The G-MAX's were pretty good but this last set really does feel like they changed the formula for the worse as even when they were new I was spinning unexpectedly in far too many situations.

I'd imagine your Veloster (not sure of year/model) is at least a few hundred pounds lighter than my car but I'm curious to see how it does.

Good point, yea. They are the newer Plus XL's. It's a 2020 R-Spec

Yea, so roughly 600-700lbs heavier for my G37.    As someone whose heaviest prior vehicle ever owned was under 3100lbs  (yes even my 1988 Jeep Comanche with an iron block 4.0 Inline 6) it kills me how weight wears down tires so much faster. 

 

I started using the General G-MAX AS-03's back when I had a 2013 Hyundai Accent (2500lbs) and those tires were a great fit for the car.  In fact I was more confident taking some turns in that econobox than I am in the G37 which is clearly a skill / confidence issue, not the cars capability.

 

Either way, I have been using the G-MAX line ever since but I think this car is just too heavy for their construction.  Hopefully you like the tires, I'm going to pick them up hopefully next week.

I ran a few sets of Pilot Sport 4S' from when they were released until last summer. I switched over to the Extreme Contact Sport 02 last summer, and I was pretty happy with them.  Steering feel is a little dead at center, and can feel like a bit of understeer at initial turn in, but after that they are pretty responsive.  I'll be running them again this year, as soon as I can swap out of my snow tires. Usually the summers can go on the first or second week of May. I'll probably be switching back to the 4S's next year because they run better in colder temperatures. Temps at my house frequently drop to at or below freezing all the way into late June, and start up again in mid-late August.

 

@avacado I think you'll be pretty happy with the DWS's. I know a few people that have them, and if I was going to run no seasons they would probably be at the top of my list.

Continental Extreme Contact Sport - are not to be used below 45 F - probably not the tire for your part of the world. Thanks for the feedback on the Sport 02 & Pilot Sport 4S

Separate summer and winter tire setups will always be better for both scenarios than running "all seasons". 

 

The Falken RT615K+ I have on the Miata have that same low temp warning so I have a set of snow tires on the stock wheels for the colder months even though I rarely drive the car in actual snow. As fun as it is, I just hate having to wash the salt off immediately. 

 

Unfortunately the spare wheels with snow tires I had for the wagon wont fit over the brakes on the moostang. I have Pilot Sport All Season 4's on the stock wheels. Once those wear down, I'll put a set of Blizzaks on and get a separate set of wheels with summer tires to run the rest of the time. 

 

Obviously having multiple sets of wheels is a lot more cumbersome if you don't have a garage. With a wall mount rack and some tire totes, they are pretty unobtrusive though. 

 

I have a couple sets hanging over the spot where we park the push mower. I'm intentionally not washing the E30 before I sell it so it can be a "barn find"

I probably wouldn't drive on the Contis in temps much below freezing, but they aren't total hockey pucks at 35-45°F.

 

I had a set of garbage 18" cast wheels that I was running in the winter, but this year I was finally able to find a set of 17" steelies that clear the Brembos with 1/4" spacers. Much nicer driving on the 17s with a bit more sidewall.  Even better than the softer ride, is the fact that I don't have to constantly pull over to clear the snow and ice out of the wheels, to get rid of the death wobble at speeds over 45 mph.

I always yeet around here at 35-40mph.

 

 

I sometimes get a very small amount of oversteer when doing that. Usually, people who are following me take this corner at the same speed because they can't think for themselves. They think because I do it, it's safe for them to do it as well. One day, I imagine someone is going to take that corner at the same speed as me with worse tyres and/or they freak out and slam on the brakes which will cause them to crash.

 

I also do that to save fuel. It's a 40mph road that goes into a 50mph road. My average mpg went up by 5 since I started doing that. I used to slow down to 20-25mph for this corner. Hypermiling doesn't have to be boring.

Any time you use the brakes you are converting fuel into heat. I've managed 19.21 MPG (US) in the Lexus with just some mild driving changes.

Ordered and will have the DWS-06 Plus on the rears this Sunday.    I'm still running the G-MAX AS-05 up front for now as they are in excellent condition, but mixing tires is far from ideal and bothers me greatly so I'll swap them in like 5-10k miles.

My area in FL has enough days during the winter that drop into the low 30's which is one of the reasons I haven't run a pure summer tire.  Winter tires are pointless here otherwise so it's a tradeoff.

I think to qualify for a Yeet on that corner, you'd need to be doing 50-60. 35 seems more like a yawn than a yeet.

This is especially true, with how good all seasons have gotten over the last 5-10 years. Additionally, you save some significant change, since typical all season treadware is at least double any good summer tire.

Doing 50-60 is illegal and is possible in theory, but then I'd have to cut the corner and end up in the loose gravel which would give me far less grip. It's pretty clean in that screenshot, but that screenshot is is from 2017 Street View.

...when I was youngish, more foolish and tooling around in a 2nd-hand TransAm WS6 TA 400 cid (Pontiac block, not the 403 Oldsmobile), I went through tires and brake-pads on a highly regular basis...now, I have my tires last for about 80k km and brake pads more than 60k on the X5, just by changing my driving style (and manual override on the tranny).

 

...speaking of that TransAm, it was a hoot to drive in and around Muskoka and around Trent Universty in Peterborough (snowbelt )...it did have Posi Trac diff and oodles of torque -  a great way to learn winter driving in Canada

It takes around 1 hour max to change them if you take your time and make sure everything done properly (torqued to spec, copper grease on the hubs, check the PSI, clean them with a rinseless solution, etc).

 

Plus then you get the excuse to have a change of wheels and a different look.

Glad I coated it last year, but the softtop is starting to show its age (nearly 20 years soon). Don't want to think about the cost of replacing it

 

I've owned this car the longest so far at 3.5 years compared to 3 for my Palio (white) and 2 for my Accord (silver), which is neat. Also, I feel like my cars from here on out will always be brightly or interestingly coloured. The yellow is still really neat, and I don't foresee it getting 'old'.

Yea, I don't intend on buying a second set of wheels, jacks and all the other amenities that it requires to be able to change tire sets. It's just not happening. Frankly, I just don't care about my car the way you and @Fluxmavendo. It's never getting waxed unless I pay someone to do it. There is still pollen on her from March. My garage is full of other * that requires my attention like the riding mower, weedwacker, bush trimmer that require my constant free hours on the weekend instead of powerwashing the car. I just don't have that kind of energy like I used to. Children take away your caring about vehicles in a hurry as well.
