I had a similar issue where the game cache was messed up and I had to manually delete a certain file and it fixed it. Don't remember what file but you could probably look it up or just delete the entire cache folder. Reinstalling does not fix, must manually delete.

...^^ May be it's just the path ? As posted > here at least one of the earlier patches messed up my 200 GB 'rolling cache' path to another M.2  drive. Fortunately, the cache itself was fine, just had to re-enter the custom path in 'options / data'. That said, more recent patches (including the one which added VR among other things) left the cache path alone, though

EDIT I figured I better try out everything after recent post and (even more) patches...normally fly with 'live' weather, but this time,  I spec'ed 'snow thunderstorm' instead...not ideal for 'VFR' ?

I have not even tried the Airbus yet, just the smaller jets - and the 747, of course. My usual default plane of choice though is the Icon A5 as I can land with it pretty much anywhere. As to auto-trim, if you DON'T start at an airport but start mid-air, auto-trim is not on automatically (trim can be changed manually) on my setup. Only when I start from / land at an airport runway does auto-trim come on.

The air bus is super weird compared to the 747... But they're definitely both really weird as someone new to the flight sims...

Why does the 747 start making a clicking noise in the cockpit sometimes? Why won't it let me throttle down on a decent? Sometimes it's like these planes want me to crash them.

...clicking noise is usually a warning, i.e. overspeed.

not sure if it applies to the sound you hear, but...speed trigger warning can vary, ie. by 'conditions, altitude'. Quick way to check is 'external view', lower left speed indicator

pic 1 no speed warning, pic 2 speed warning (note red and white band)

yea, right I am at least aware of the red lines meaning too fast but this happens with the 747 when I am no where near that speed. It can happen at 160NM or 250NM. It's gotta be some kind of warning but I right now I have no idea what. It seems to happen a lot less when I am flying more carefully though, thats for sure.

...in general, with external view at least, you can disable warning sounds via general 'options' panel...

I was  up 'in person' on Cypress Mountain (very close to Vancouver) yesterday morning. It is so nice to use FS2020 to explore areas I know but in much more detail and wider range.

With snow, flying got difficult - I had to stay real low, though at higher elevation, things improved. I even got to see a rare double rain/snowbow ?
At the end of the flight, windshield, wings and control surfaces were all iced up...

This is just an amazing thread and I wanted to show my appreciation for the time and effort @J7SC_Orion took to put this together. Well done sir, well done!

...thanks, @Laithan ...Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 deserves the credit as it is easy to adore and thus invest a bit of time in to share, especially given the accuracy re. area I live in - I usually start my workday early by driving to the local mountains (only 20 min away, unless rush hour) for a quick hike and also some reading over a nice coffee, and I actually use Flight Simulator 2020 (set to live weather...) to help pick a particular spot, like this local ski area...

  • 2 weeks later...

...picked up an Asus Strix 3090 OC last week (chance encounter at a great price)...just finished the base benchmarking and also loading of FS2020, including my precious 200GB rolling cache, in a fresh build for a secondary 4K station.

Hopefully soon, I find a bit of time to pit 2x 2080 TIs in SLI-CFR against one Strix 3090 OC...early, simple tests suggest that it won't be a one-sided affair...

Now we just need to get @ENTERPRISE to finish his new 3090 build and come and play FS2020 and add some high-speed, low altitude fly-bys...then he can go to 'relax' at CP2077 Night city...steal a car, get shot at, hang out in grimy bars and swanky Arasaka HQs...so relaxing, especially with RTX 'Psycho' level...

...as mentioned in another post, I just saw 2x FTW3 Ultras go up for sale  at a place nearby (converted to US currency around $1960 per/ no tariff here).  Ahem, just checked and now they're gone...45 min later, w/limit of one per customer.

Are you looking for AMD Big Navi or Ampere (3070 to 3090) ? There seems to be a 'slightly faster slow trickle' of 3090s coming in as of late, at least where I live (Canada's W.Coast).

I'm definitely planning on VR for both FS2020 and also hopefully for Cyberpunk 2077 - right now, I'm either using FS2020 on a 40 inch 4K monitor about 4 feet away, or a 55 inch 4K about 7 feet away...pretty immersive already - I can even get a funny vertigo feeling flying down the side of a steep mountain real fast ??, or get claustrophobic in a dark snowy city canyon

Honestly, I would just make up my mind and shortlist the vendors and models I would like re. 3080 Tis, and than just keep your eyes open, especially outside the super big box stores...

...when I ran across the 3090 last week, I didn't go to the computer store (part of a medium chain, with local outlets in major Canadian centers) to buy a GPU...I just went there for value packs of Arctic P12 pwm pst...but there it was, one single 3090, and a Strix OC no less, at a great price which had just come in. The Strix was one of three on my list from last fall (w/ some intermittent availability and price checking),  so when I ran across it unexpectedly, bingo.

Based on what I've seen I think this game basically has a cap on FPS, I don't think I've seen any benchmarks above 50fps in 4k max settings. I dont think 2x3090's would make a difference.

I understand that this game will stream maps while you are playing. It seems that a lot of ISPs are imposing data caps on plans. Does playing this game for a significant time actually consume a lot of data? When you crank up the detail to max, are you really downloading at 6.25MB/s constantly?
