Yeah, I got the power for it all in 4k max it seems. I didn't notice any problems on the 3080ti, but my monitor only does 60 fps in 4k.

Msfs2020 is sorta like Minecraft in the sense that there is no goals so you have to make your own fun.

Fun things to do: fly the 747 off a runway it barely fits on

Mess with weather settings

Set up engine failure and try to do an emergency landing

Find really cool places to fly

Try to land the smaller planes in weird places like the tops of mountains

The landing challenges are fun but don't bother with the bush trips.

Fyi, there is no way ur getting to 60 fps in 4k max even on a 3080ti.

I probably should play it again just to see how many I'm getting. I'll post when I do, but it was smooth for my old eyes.

You might get close to 60 at times but definitely not in any complex scenes, but it's not a fast paced game so lower fps is not too big of a deal.

...it is possible to get 60+ fps even in busy scenes w/ the right hardware, but rare...and not really worth all the hassle (such as extra watts, heat). I have 'oc_ed' both my FS2020 4K monitors to 72 Hz from 60 Hz which does help a bit at times...but really, still waiting for the right time / deal to pick up a newer LG Oled CX w/ 4K/120 Hz.

...you can try it out (increment-by-increment) via creating custom refresh rates in the NVidia drivers' tab...most of my 60 Hz 4K monitors  will go to 70 Hz (if not to 72 Hz = 20% oc). When you reach 'the point of failure' specific to your monitor, it will revert back to the previous setting used after 15 or so seconds, until you press the 'keep changes' tab. Once you have created the custom refresh profiles, they will also show up in Windows / screen resolution / advanced / list all modes

...sounds good, but I don't like Microsoft's 'forced updates' that come with the 'improvements'. For example, after the recent Windows 10 H2 update, one of my two machines with FS2020 lost access to that sim. It turned out to be a known issue that had affected some other folks as well with H2...ended up having to reinstall FS2020 after advice from MS FS 2020 support 😞

Tried out update 5 yesterday. Definitely a big performance improvement. Also the world map in the menu is way more detailed so it's easier to find cool places to fly.

Before I was playing at max with 80% res scaling. Now I'm at 100% and getting about the same performance as before, maybe a little better.

I forgot to mention in my last post, I found a really cool place to fly. There is a small island off the coast of Africa called Reunion that has some amazing narrow high cliff canyons to fly through.

...finally managed to get both setups updated with the 40+ GB '''patch'''. At one point, MS Azure servers were wheezing /  throttling like crazy (to about 1/10th normal speed, while the rest of the network checked out fine on this end) but the result is worth it: better fps, improved graphics, much-improved world map (a biggie for me), and new planes such as the Cessna float plane. I might even try out 8K native before other scaling adjustments

...important FYI: I noticed that while in the post-patch FS202 menu, fps can exceed 700 🥴 - reminiscent of the Amazon New World GPU killer issue...better safe than sorry, so I limited fps to 80 (4K) now via NVidia Inspector.

Speaking of NVidia Inspector, SLI-CFR for the dual 2080 Ti Aorus Waterfoce WB still works with the updated FS2020, as does flying upside down ☺️

...after 'suffering' through two x 40 GB mandatory patches, it was time for some 4K Ultra fun with the Pitts Special stunt plane in Paris (SLI CFR; single GPU). I start with some '''closeups''' 😁

Does anyone else play this with an Xbox controller? I've always had issues with the game where it wouldn't load the controller settings properly and more recently, I could fly a plane once. If I go back to the main menu to get a different plane or flight plan, going back into the game would stop the controller from working. It doesn't unmap the buttons, in the controller settings everything is mapped correctly, but it doesn't actually do anything in game.

I've noticed it does this as well if I switch to or from VR mode. In order to get the controls to actually work in VR mode, I have to start the game then immediately press alt+tab to get it in VR mode. If I wait until the menu then go in game, I get the same issue with the controller where it just stops working.

Unplugging the controller and plugging it back in doesn't fix it. The only fix is it to restart the game entirely which is just inconvenient. The game loads slow enough as it is going from in game to main menu. Quitting the game entirely and starting it again is painful. It's putting me off playing it.

When the game first came out I tried it with a controller but I didn't have this kind of issue.

If you like the game it's worth it to get a joystick. I got one recommended to me in this thread on eBay. This is the same one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/144142469888?hash=item218f8f8b00:g:jjIAAOSwldthDCHJ
