[Teamgroup] Put magnets in your computer to hold your SSD

Christopher H

Recommended Posts

Back in my day our steam powered computational engine storage had one main enemy: MAGNETS!  Now Teamgroup wants you to stick your storage to the case with said magnets. What sorcery is this?!

For a case with wasted space and not aluminium this does seem like a good idea. Let me know if you want me to test them.

https://www.teamgroupinc.com/en/product/ssd-adaptor

For about $10us seems a nice small good idea.

  • Christopher H changed the title to [Teamgroup] Put magnets in your computer to hold your SSD

FYI we put the bracketed part as the tag now so it's not part of the title.

Only spinning disk style hard drives are affected by magnets. If you don't have an old hard drive, magnets are fine.

I'm interested if there is any influence from the magnets on the read/write and if any errors occur.
But even if the test is positive, I'll never put magnets behind my SSD :classic_laugh:

It definitely shouldn't make a difference.

That said, when I have trouble mounting an ssd in a case that doesn't have a dedicated spot for one I usually just use strong double sided tape.

I've never been really into ssd's so I had no idea that they are not affected by magnets.
But I have a few brackets to mount them, and like you mentioned I also used tape a few times.
With NVMe and PCIe ssd's I don't have those problems anymore, and no cables to hide!

If we are talking SATA 2.5" SSD's, I've just let them sit unmounted in the back of the case if I didn't have anywhere to mount them...

Man how many SSDs do you guys run that leave you with no place to mount them? Or are they just older cases? I feel like I haven't yet been fortunate enough to have that problem, but with current prices I think I'm getting close.

Yes, older cases. People with a standard home or office PC, hard drive fails, replace it with SSD, no place to mount.

Just one, but may previous case didn't have a place to mount them when I had to remove the drive cage to fit a reservoir/pump unit.

My current case I have it mounted.

I have done that a few more times than I like. Even in the review case I posted recently as it has 2 and I have 3. Well, now I have ordered 2 of the 2x HHD to SSD holders and custom cables. 6SSD raid! Woot.
